I will support Collins, Monken or Whisenhunt. None of these three stand out as an incredible hire, but all would be solid choices.

Whisenhunt “removed himself from consideration” according to Adam Schefter at ESPN.

yeah, sure. probably after either TStan balked at his price tag or after TStan said he was going to see other people.

I'm wondering if Whiz's agent and/or some of the donors like Dewberry backing him were responsible for some of the media misinformation that he was the guy.

So much depends on who he brings in as OC and DC. Better players doesn't amount to much if he doesn't have coaches with the ability to develop that talent and a scheme that gives them some sort of built-in advantage.
Isn’t Rip Scherer still a possibility?

kidding.

I am whelmed. Not overwhelmed, not underwhelmed. I wanted a good recruiter, so I think I got what I asked for. We have a lot more going for us than Temple, so it will be interesting to see how he steps into a bigger/better role with more issues to manage while recruiting like a madman. In terms of recruiting I have no patience - he should be improving our recruiting starting day 1.

I am certainly open to having CGC blow the doors off the place and make believers of everyone.

Sounds like the man has hate in his heart for the dwags. That's good.

THWg.

Not sure I've ever seen this much unity on StingTalk. Ever.
Thats because TStan's playing 4D chess. He leaked Whisenhunt's name, even leaked that he was offeeing him a job, waited for the fans to go through 4 of the 5 stages of grief, then he said dont believe what you believe in the media, calling them fake news, and leaked his real choice, getting most of the fanbase support and looking like a hero.

I'm sort of meh on him. I like the recruiting prowess, if its real- I was always under the impression Giff Smith was responsible for most of the good players we recruited during Gailey's time. I don't see great stuff Xs and Os wise though, which makes me somewhat worried he could be another Chan. His HC record isn't impressive, and he took over a program that was already winning a lot and is now winning less...

If he is the guy, I very much hope he is successful, I just think someone like Elliott who is a successful recruiter and excellent Xs and Os guy would have been a better choice. Elliott may not have HC experience yet, but its not like Collins has much either.

If Collins gets announced as our Coach he will have my support. But, I am not hyped up with this hire. I did not find myself thinking during the season, “If CPJ leaves I would love to have the guy from Temple.” He has a two year head coaching resume where he has done very well at Temple, where their program was on an upward trajectory when he was hired. The reality is that win totals for the Owls declined in his two years at the helm from the previous two year win total. He moved around a lot as an assistant, so there are no long term records of sustained success. I would judge this hire at the time of its announcement as reasonable to good. Time will tell if it is a great hire or bad hire.

I voted no, but I wish there was more than a yes/no option. With the large interest, I would like to know who was rejected. There are certainly coaches I prefer over Collins, Monken/Briles/Leach being some of them.

I’ll support Collins. But if we don’t crack the top 25 in recruiting by year 2 and especially year 3, I have little confidence we’ll see good results on the field.

Here’s hoping the optimism in his recruiting prowess is correct and our AD gives him the money and support he needs.

I fall in the in between category as well. I'll support the hire and hope it goes awesome but I actually love our offense and wanted Monken if there was a chance to stay with it. Going away from the offense I wanted to push for Satterfield but that ship has sailed and now that I know with a 100% certainty that we could have another P5 head coach that has actually called GT wanting the job, and would fit in awesome at Tech, I would really like him but iiwii.

I don't think he's a great hire, but I do think he's a good one. Besides Elliott, I like him more than the other names we threw out there.
Just don't expect a first season like CPJ had. We need to give him time.
