Hype Train Boyz... explain this

I think his problem has nothing to do with CPJ leaving or CGC coming on in; this board has people on it that feel like they have to poo-poo everything about Paul Johnson from his personality, to his offense, to his recruiting and beyond to build up CGC. Anyone like myself who is excited about CGC coming in; but am excited about it without throwing stones at CPJ is accused of being butt hurt or whatever.

That's fair. There are certainly some who do what you say, but combating that by being dismissive of the new coach is sort of doing the same thing. I found those who were constantly negative about CPJ over the years to be pretty annoying, and it's just looking like we're going to have some posters being equally annoying under the new staff.

The whole point of this thread seems to be to tell anyone who will listen that Collins will fail as a recruiter at Tech, that Tech just can't get good recruits, etc.

I am not pining as CPJ needed some changes. I make it clear I despise the anti option crowd and thier Pollyanna new coach is the answer we all been looking for... and yes... the next 4 years and possibly longer will be miserable. I am only posting to yank on the Pollyanna people’s chains and bring a little misrable reality to thier lives....

Get some help.

Just think though, you get a whole new offensive scheme to learn and do breakdown videos on.

I am glad people are excited about Collins, he is what we needed to excite the fan base. I hope he can pull in a class to meet the lofty expectations. I think he will certainly have the fan base more excited starting next season that a Monken or Art Briles hire would have. I just hope he can live up to the hype.

I think Collins is an amazing hire and better than I thought GT could have gotten. If PJ had stayed one more year, I think Collins would have been tough to get next year. My excitement about Collins has nothing to do with Johnson.

That's a two-way street. You have a contingent of people, and for some of them it isn't about Paul Johnson either- it's about wanting to keep the option offense. I question if some of them were really even Tech fans before Johnson got hired, or if they're people that just followed him over from Navy and Georgia Southern. To say that the Tech supporters who are positive about the new hire are just pie-in-the-sky foolish because everyone knows you can't do this and that at Tech, and then you yourself are too out of touch with reality to admit the option limited us in terms of recruiting and putting talent on the field? Who's unrealistic now?

We probably aren't going to be able to out-compete Clemson or UGAg more often than not. I'm not willing to accept that we can't beat the UVAs, Pitts, and Dukes of the world. If Johnson had stayed, I'd have been fine. I wasn't wanting to run him off. But now that he's gone, and I'm pumped to move on to something new, stop dumping all over it. It doesn't raise CPJ's status as coach any higher.

Help enlighten me on why basketball cannot bring in top ranked recruits given our excellent 100% all out congenial for the people never cranky never smirky people person and recruiting coach... is he just not dedicated like CPJ was not dedicated or did the option hurt basketball recruiting too.

By the way, I like the BB coach, I just don’t like some of you ; )

Paul Johnson and the option offense had more wins in conference during his tenure than any other team in the ACC that didn't win the National Title (I actually think VPI had more too).

I agree that we shouldn't be losing to Duke. That is horrible, but Pittsburgh and UVA aren't so far beneath GT that we should never lose to them, and by and large CPJ has dominated them.

I think there are aspects of CPJ that weren't great in terms of recruiting, but I am not going to think somehow we are going to be a perrenial top 25 contender if we start recruiting top 25 classes. I would very much like that, but I feel like Collins would've done better as the HC of Temple if he were the type of coach that can get the absolute most out of his talent.

1) Yes, recruits must be able to pass at Georgia Tech to keep 'APR' percents up.
2) No, we probably can't reach UGA's recruiting rankings. That's not the point. Only the most naive of Pollyannas are suggesting that.
3) A head coach's number one priority should be to make his football program as successful as possible (yes, that includes graduating players), not prove to the world a certain offensive scheme can succeed.
4) 'Can't' never could. 'Try' did everything.

If we can't reach uga and Clemson's recruiting, we will have to coach our players up to narrow the gap or scheme around it. Many people here have set those schools as the standard we have to meet, and its a tough one.

3-3 against Pitt, but 1-3 the last 4 years. It's not about them being 'beneath' Tech. It's about me wanting to have a successful program.

If we keep running the option offense, we will be so outclassed by those teams, even stealing their plays won't beat them. It's a catch-22.

That's pretty lame. And what will your attitude be if Collins succeeds and actually surpasses CPJ's accomplishments?

Why do you think this? We beat UGA coached by Kirby Smart in 2016. Using the option. We aren't a national title contender. Those are the only teams that have given UGA and Clemson trouble the past two seasons.

We will finish in the top 40-43 this year. We will be top 15-20 next year. I expect us to be top 25 consistently. Collins is a great recruiter and is putting together a helluva recruiting staff. Andy Mac will likely stay in some capacity as he is helping Colllins a lot.

UGAg lost 5 games in 2016. We weren't the only team to give them trouble. We gave neither UGAg nor Clemson any trouble in 2017 or 2018.
