ECU screwed this up royally. Va Tech had played them for years and was willing to travel to Greenville several times. Hurricane week ECU wanted out of their Saturday game at Blacksburg and indicated as much on a Tuesday. Their campus was closing and they wanted to travel to Florida and stay ten days before playing at USF. Va Tech simply asked them to wait until Wednesday to make the call. If it appeared the storm would miss Blacksburg then the Pirates could travel for their game. If not, they could cancel or postpone Wednesday.

ECU then unilaterally announced the postponement on Tuesday and left for Florida. When VPI AD complained ECU went self-righteous on them and indicated the Hokies had no regard for safety. When it happened I said this would be the end of a relationship that had proven to be a good one for ECU. I am sorry I was right.

This is because ECU didn't work with them to reschedule their cancelled game. VT got pissed off. A bit of an overreaction tho.

VPI should schedule Army for that new home game. I know Army's not an FCS team, but Army does run what VPI fans have always claimed is a "high school offense," so VPI should see no problem with beating Army. That way, the key-chain shakers would only need six wins to keep their sizzling bowl streak alive.

Army would pound VT right now. The butthurt from Hokie fans losing to the option again would be awesome.

It might have been 97 or 98 and I was going to Virginia and got the paper the day after a Va Tech loss to a FCS team (JMU, maybe?) after the Hokies lost on a blocked punt. So much for Beamer Ball.
Betcha Va Tech wants none of Navy to fill those spots because the Middies won't be as bad as they were this year.
