Paul Johnson deserved better.

GT was favored in 10 of 13 games this year. Our problem was more X’s and O’s than Jimmy’s and Joe’s.

I believe that Gailey ended up with a better overall winning %. Johnson had higher highs and lower lows. Gailey just steady mediocrity

Truth.

CPJs best back to back seasons were 2008 & 2009. Then flashes of brilliance. Not unlike the Bill Lewis first year game vs fsu, I have often wondered what might have been if CPJ had walked away with a W over ugag in 09?

More than anything, I am thankful for the wins over ugag, but definitely time to move on.

UGAg wouldn't have gone to a bowl that year

“We got the ball out on the perimeter several times and it’s like one of those things, I’m sure when you look at it, it’s never as good or as bad as it seems. “

“Contrary to what you guys said, I’ve never had a problem with the media... ...I don’t think that you ever asked me anything I didn’t answer or you asked for an interview that I didn’t give you. So write whatever the hell you want. That’s my final press conference.”

Maybe it was a tribute to the recruit he just flipped from UNC.

But yeah, attire is totally the #1 priority, so keep taking passive-aggressive shots at CGC while insisting you want him to succeed.
Aerodick wants to be right more than he wants Tech to succeed. That’s why he’s setting up these “goals” like CGC must win 8 games next year to be considered a success (fully knowing that there is a dreadful transition in store). He just wants to watch the world burn and his goal is to add kindling to it.

:bigcry:

You obviously have no faith in CGC to coach. His OC will have a big job to do during transition; but going 8-5 in the ACC Coastal with a couple of FCS games thrown in isn't some impossible goal. You get Benson back, you no doubt have a better quarterback, an experienced tight end, plenty of skill position players. We will probably get out manned in 3-4 games; but I am confident Ralph Friedgen could put together a potent offense with what is there, so should whoever our OC ends up being.. Add a DC who can coach mediocre defense and we should win around 8 games.

I’m plenty confident in CGC. But I’m also not trying to set up some first year strawman like you are with an 8 win expectation. The only reason you are doing that is so you can come back and bitch when he falls short of that. You’ve already set up your hipster fan bona fides in this thread when you said you liked the CGC hire until everyone else got excited about it. Like a true hipster, you’re done with what is now popular and have already moved onto looking to find something else first.

So in your mind CPJ is a miracle worker then. Considering he’s gone 20-15 in the regular season and 13-11 in conference with the current class of rising seniors.

No but he won on his scheme which CGC won’t be using. So the advantage PJ has we no longer have. And as I stated elsewhere, the ACC Coastal is horrible. So perhaps CGC could go 4-4 in the ACC next year. However we are getting N.C. State over Louisville.

Going 2-2 OOC is possible but will be very tough.

There will be so much transition over the next few months. I am basically just viewing this as a UAB starting from scratch.

CPJ has the same FBS win % as Gailey. Yet he has defenders and Gailey has absolutely none. To claim that Tech fans prefer Gailey over CPJ is to be living in bizzaro world.

If anything CPJ’s unconventionality has helped his stature.

It definitely brought along a lot of Navy fans who didn’t buy tickets or give to GT.

Johnson’s FBS win % is quite a bit worse than Gailey BTW. Gailey was 3-0 vs. FCS. Johnson was 13-0. PJ went 70-61 vs FBS. Gailey went 41-32.

Edit I think PJ only has 60 losses not 61. So 70-60 vs. FBS.

So I started another thread for expectations, go there and put down what you think is likely next year and we'll see what happens.

UAB was in a bowl their first year back. :dunno:

In Conference USA and some FCS teams. But yes, with amazing coach and player development, there is a chance. Hopefully CGC is as amazing as you think he is.
