I don't think it's nitpicking or doubting. I think its a reasonable question. Did we add him to the staff just because he played at GT? Where's the college football coaching experience?
Do you think it's 'reasonable' to ask if you're a real Georgia Tech fan because you only have 47 posts on this board? I mean, do you have enough 'experience'? Wouldn't that come across as obnoxious as much as it does reasonable? Should people wait and see what you have to post before judging you? I think new coaches should be granted the same grace period.

I can tell you this. We've spent the last two regimes putting a premium on 'development' and 'X and O' coaches. We've had some single season successes, but have averaged right around 7-5ish. But I don't remember during the last two hires there being such a hardcore contingent of fans looking to fault-find as much. It seems to be a small group of persistently dissatisfied people (whom I suspect are largely comprised of those unable to part with CPJ and/or his offensive scheme). Sure, both Gailey and Johnson endured dissatisfaction when their teams endured losses, but I've never seen somebody get hit with so much negativism as CGC before he even started.

Somebody gripes about outside coaches because 'they won't understand the challenges unique to Tech'. So then you bring in Tech people, and it's something else to be found wrong. The chronic fault-finding and negativism serves no 'reasonable' purpose.

Being John Doe internet poster is different from being a coach on a Power 5 football team. Not trying to be obnoxious. I'm presenting a reasonable concern on a GT fan board. I agree with your last sentence. I am far from being a dissatisfied fan and far from being even slightly negative towards Coach Collins. I plan to add an additional season ticket just because of the Coach Collins movement. Coach Coleman may very well turn out to be one of our best. You mentioned a hardcore contingent of fans looking to fault find. I don't read all threads on this board and if that is happening, then I can understand your frustration at my post.

I think deadchicken has a point and I share his concerns. I honestly haven't seen all that many people being critical of CGC but maybe I just subconsciously ignore it. I enjoyed watching the 3O and liked CPJ's style but am thrilled with how the transition had gone and have confidence the program is headed in the right direction.

I would think the fact he was a 1st round pick and starter for the Dolphins for Shula and with Marino gives him instant credibility in any recruit’s living room in South Florida. If we can steal a handful of good recruits out of that region then the hire pays off right there.

Who the öööö down voted this?

Whether or not Coleman turns out to be a great coach is to come later, but for the present, how can you argue with hiring a college All-American with a long NFL tenure including Pro-Bowl appearance, success in business after NFL, and also (albeit limited) NFL coaching experience. Look at it this way: In less than 2 hours after it was reported that Panagos was hired by MN, we had already hired a guy with the above background, PLUS being a GT alum. It took UGAg 3 days to replace their OC, which ended up being a promotion from within. So tell me now that was the plan along.

Hiring coaches from the Nick Saban and Jon Gruden coaching tree.

It doesn’t get much better than this.

The tenure of the previous two head coaches spans almost twenty years and college football has gone thru many changes in that period. One of those changes is that there is exponentially more information (much of it minutiae) to discover and discuss. The performance of the program under both Gailey and Johnson has prompted posters, armed with all this new info, to be more critical I suppose. One thing most of us learned over the past 18 seasons was the importance of the staff to the overall success of the program. The two dominant teams of the last four years have staffs that bear no resemblance to Tech's coaching staff of the last 30 years. I'm fine with Collins' selections thus far, if for no other reason than they are significantly different than our recent past. Let's give it some time before we start throwing darts.

Throwing darts is a lot more fun.

Its cool to see Coleman back, but I'm firmly in the skeptical camp after our recent experience with CTR.

I can understand skepticism about Coleman's lack of coaching experience. But Collins has been pretty serious in his hiring process thus far...and being a defensive guy himself, I just can't see him making a lazy hire on that side of the ball in particular. I will be juiced about the hire until proven otherwise.
