But Can Collins "Coach"?

His defense was really good at Florida, but was it that much better than it was before he got there or after he left? Here are Florida's recent national defensive FEI rankings (not looking at ppg allowed because their offense screwed them some years):

2011: 46
2012: 1
2013: 7
2014: 5
--Collins hired as Florida DC---
2015: 22
2016: 6
--Collins goes to Temple--
2017: 55
2018: 26
So you are only a good coach if you improve a bad situation?

I dont know if we can say CPJ hated recruiting. He had handicaps both from his offensive scheme and the amount of resources provided to him. And no he's not the Dabo type, use God, use social media, do catchy monikers, show up at midnight at a recruit's house type of coach. But that's what recruiting is now. It's showmanship and CPJ is an old school ball coach. Which unfortunately doesn't work anymore. I'm happy we're doing what it takes now but I dont feel like we need to öööö on CPJ to feel better about the new stuff.
You're right, but there were things CPJ could've done better that didn't require him to be some larger than life Dabo personality....like hold more camps in the summer, cut bait on subpar coaches on his staff, offer more guys early, etc.

While you may be right it really isn't relevant anymore the things they could have done differently, is it?

So the former DC at FL and Miss State who was hired away from us by Saban is smoke and mirrors?
Could be, only time will tell. He has never been at a stop very long. Hopefully he is not smoke and mirrors, and he wins, and is at Tech forever.

He had some ridiculous DB talent at Florida. I hope he can parlay that into some #biGTime recruits at that position.
DB is the one area where we're already recruiting well. Lots of talent there: Juanyeh, Kaleb Oliver, Carpenter, Tre Swilling, etc.

We don't even know if Collins can recruit.

With that said, it appears we are rocketing in the right direction. Just need to execute on the hype and sustain season over season momentum.

I'm not saying anything. I just looked up the stats because I was curious, and posted them here. Muschamp got a lot of credit for having great defenses at Florida, and it looks like Collins' defenses were just as good. Hopefully he can put together some good offenses here as well.
