Jordan Yates

And will suck balls in 2019 as well and why I believe will contend for the Coastal next season

Very well could. Our defense *could* be pretty damn stout with the talent returning. And we have the best special teams in the conference returning. Probably one of the better units in the country.

What? This makes absolutely no sense. So people don’t improve?!? I’m pretty sure the unimpressed coach got his butt beat by JY. Rivals has absolutely no reason to throw GT a bone with the ratings

I fail to see where you're confused. You have me confused now. I'm looking for all the tape he has between now and the end of the season. Can you help me find it?

Who cares if he got his butt beat by JY? That doesn't mean that he's incapable of accurately speaking to the skills of JY. FWIW I asked him before the game so I could watch JY play and what to look out for.

Some people are comparing him to Pat Mahomes...LMGTLAO

I’m confused at your assertion that he couldn’t possibly play his way into a 4th star.

Who cares? I’m pretty sure his analysis is objective

Pat Mahomes? Lol hell no

More of a Russell Wilson/Baker type. Doesn’t possess the arm strength to be in Mahomes stratosphere

Patrick Mahomes was only a 3 star on Rivals where as Yates is a 4 star. Pretty much scientifically proves now that we'll at least get to the AFC championship game this year.

And Russell Wilson was a 2 star, so....

Reference to my original post:

You're not being cynical, you're a realist who's being reasonable. Everyone knows the scouting sites will redesignate stars for athletes for "reasons". What's definitely not a reason is that he played his way into into it. If that were the case, we would have seen it sooner.

My whole point is that it's reasonable to believe that Rivals changed his rating for reasons other than his play, and that if it was his play, then we would have seen it in his grade change sooner, rather than a couple weeks before signing day.

My point was not that nobody can play their way to a higher ranking.

Ergo, quid pro quo, vis a vis, your point doesn't make any damn sense

This is what I've said from the beginning. Having to play Clemson handicaps us, but there's nobody in the Coastal we should be afraid of, and no reason we shouldn't have a shot to win it. I think regardless of who plays QB, we'll be better there this year and that is already a huge determinant of success.

@RamblinWreck92 all I'm saying is if the previous staff could win 7 games with a supposedly ööööty roster and a RB at QB, the new one should be able to do it with a real QB and more or less the same roster. Is that so crazy?

No, I totally agree @johncu.

The only QB on the planet who compares to Mahomes is Aaron Rodgers. Only those two humans can make those crazy throws.

I'm excited for Jordan Yates. He's a great player. I think the QB competition will be fierce. Wouldn't mind seeing him redshirt.

Let's wait a bit and see what develops. I remember seeing Fran Tarkenton in the Tech-Georgia freshman game many years ago. Tarkenton was basically a running QB at that point, barely adequate passer.

Slight threadjack but I saw an interview with Tark a few months ago and said he came real close to coming to GT instead of going to muttville.

I've seen Yates play in person maybe 20 times, he was a 3 year starter at Milton. He's improved every year and he is absolutely a polished, accurate QB with strong but not elite arm strength. Milton played an elite schedule against teams filled with power 5 talent with a roster not filled with elite talent and he obviously led them to the state championship where Russ Probst the legendary Colquitt coach said that he was the difference in the game. I questioned his running ability in the previous offense but anyone who says he isn't accurate is either an idiot or hasn't seen him play much.
