Dabo Swinney sends Equip Mgr to Super Bowl

Clemson has always been a sleeping giant. The money has always been there. Dabo is not a great X and O coach, he’s just a great fundraiser and had a great strategy: hire the biggest/best staff and have the best facilities in college football. It’s not surprising that they’ve been successful with that, they just finally got out of their own way. It took them a long time to find the right DC but once they did, and they signed Watson, they finally built a dynasty. IMO, several coaches could do as well as Dabo at Clemson in its current form, if they kept everything else in place...But Dabo did put it all together and deserves credit for waking the giant

Sleeping giant is a bit much. They had good runs back when the ACC was truly atrocious, and obvs the early 80's. But they're a cowtown college in the far corner of a tiny state that last year produced *2* four or five star recruits.

OTOH, we're the nation's best technical school located in the hippest, wealthiest town in the South in a state that last year produced *40* four or five star recruits. I'd say we're the sleeping giant.

Clemson historically has more money than we do, but way way less money than the biggest schools. There's been a lot of head scratching among the sports MSM over the fact that Clemson is able to beat bigger spenders.

As for academic standards... I guess we're about to see whether that's been a valid excuse all these years!

Where does this idea come from? I know people on this board love to make this comment, but I’ve seen nothing to suggest it’s true. The “Dabo is a clown” idea is just dead wrong.

Because they straight up sucked (relative to their talent) until he hired Chad Morris, and then had to outscore everyone till they got Venables.

I’m not a fan...but I can at least give a tip of the cap to those keeping the ACC relevant and keeping the SEC off the podium. Like I said, I think several coaches, including CPJ could win a championship at Clemson in its current form....but that’s my opinion
