Anybody heard

Cottrell had offers from Air Force, Austin Peay, Western Carolina, Wofford and Brown... very smart guy...very typical for a Paul Johnson recruit.
I love Tech, but personally I wouldn't have passed up an opportunity for a free Ivy League degree. He should do good with GT diploma though.
And he will need a good diploma, because he won't play pro football for a living--- also very typical of Paul Johnson recruits.

Brown?

You know what they say, Penn is the Brown of the Ivy League.

Listening to his interview from yesterday re-iterated that too. I like how he mentions we're going to try to be as balanced as possible, but if we're having more success in a particular game running or throwing, we'll stick more with what's working. That's refreshing.
That's, like, what 95% of offensive coordinators say. I understand that it's refreshing to you, but that does not in any way indicate that we will be a top 50 offense at anything.

You are free to take your rose-tinted "I like him so he's good!" evaluation over mine. That's you're prerogative.

This is sports, dude. Talking honestly about a player's apparent talent, ability, and position fit is not being negative. No one owe's anyone an apology when an underrated player performs better than expected. I'd be perfectly happy if he has 1000 yards this year, but I wouldn't bet money on it.
Of course your “honest

It’s also what he has done in former OC roles. But I didn’t see anyone claiming we would have a top 50 offense next year. Maybe I just missed it. All I am looking for is to see progress over the year, intensity and focus. The rest will take care of itself.

I have low expectations for this fall, but not sure that the record will be any better in 2020 because of the schedule, but think we will have some Playmakers that are developing in 2020. We do have potential Playmakers coming in that can contribute this fall, but not sure we have enough pieces including lineman that fit where we going but that's going to be the fun in watching and seeing. I'm going to enjoy watching us build this program for the future.

This. Just due to the change in O, coaching staff, etc., I am not setting my own personal expectations high in 2019. My hope is that we'll field a competitive, fun to watch team that shows improvement over the course of the season. CGC has certainly raised the excitement level so far IMO.

CDP might be saying all the "coach speak" things, but his seemingly constant attitude that he'll adapt is good to hear.

Even in 1983 or 1984, low expectations were still coupled with excitement as the new seasons approached.

One of the great things about this offensive coaching staff is their combined knowledge of different plays/styles/schemes that can be used to take advantage of both our players and weaknesses in the defense.

If we aren't a top 50 offense we will not beat CGE, and enthusiasm aka "juice" will be dry mid year.

So that's a thing to consider.

Sure. But if our enthusiasm is limited to this season we’re a pretty shallow dan base (which may very we’ll be true). My expectation is that by second half of the season we will begin to see what the long term may look like. Anyone expecting thing to go smoothly out of the gate is being ridiculous imo

Using myself as a barometer, I think it might be quicker than that; 3-4 games in we will know.

I also didn’t have spring football and a semester, these guys will be alright.
