#5- Jalen Huff- CB High 3*

I also love his "ranking history"
Went from unranked to #41 when he committed to OU. Dropped to 57 when he flipped to us.

Not true.

Stars matter more than coaching.

Just look at the P5 Conference Champions and NCAA Champions.

Lack of "Star Power" is why Coach Paul Johnson (an X's and O's guy, probably better than even Gruden) got a pink slip after the 2018 season.

Go Jackets! And welcome Geoff Collins!

Star rankings are useful and generally a pretty good indicator of potential. The recruiting services also sometimes pull shenanigans with ratings based on who offers and where a kid winds up. I think both are true.

Wrong on every count. PJ retired and coaching matters tremendously.

Recruiting matters tremendously - head coach's #1 job. Dabo wasn't a great position coach and Saban got his ass handed to him in the NFL where the talent gap is thin. But they're both extremely good recruiters and are taking turns having championships despite not being as good as CPJ at managing a game.

That said, what Rivals and 247 say about your recruiting with their magic stars matters as much as how I fold my toilet paper before wiping. There's a stronger correlation to subscriber rates by fanbase than there is to on-field success in their data IMO - UNC, Notre Dame and UGA perpetually and severely underperforming against their rankings are great examples. Remember the fake player with no video who got three stars because he had fake offers from several D1 schools? That's what you get when Rivals and 247 are trying to sell subscruptions.

Yeah my comment was a bit of an overstatement but no matter how many stats you have coaching still matters a lot. Not always at game time maybe but those high star players still need to have coaches show them the techniques they need to excel. Don’t forget about Coker and Miami. Lots of 4-5 star guys with very little coaching.

He was still committed to OU when he dropped.
To quote what I've read on other boards, his ratings didn't actually drop. Others that were evaluated or re-evaluated since he last was have moved up, jumping people, therefore looks like he is moving down. Give it time. He'll likely move back up during the season. He's got a legit offer list a mile long.

You are correct, look at the stars of the top teams.

I think CPJ knew it was not going to be comfortable for him to stay, I'm guessing conversations indicated that to him. He could look in the stands and see all the empty seats. He did the class thing and left on a good note IMO. He gave us some good years and moments along the way. He cared about the kids and their education, growth as men. Lots to be said for that, but in the end CFB is about winning, and it is never enough or it is too much ( Alabama )

True. Saban could have a couple of 6 win seasons and they would want him gone
