Transfers heating up...as needed

How do you know? There's a good chance Colin was told the exact same thing - you aren't going to see the field, at least as a tight end. I don't know what Colin nor these kids were told so I don't know. Do you know what each was told? Where they transferred is not relevant.

Would not be surprised with a 27 second meeting with the coach that went something like this - “Don’t need you & don’t want you.”

Do you think Collins was given 4 years to clear all the current recruits then another few years after to perform? Kids at all schools leave because they aren’t going to see the field. Happens everywhere.

How dare you, sir!

Zakk is big enough, so I thought he may stick around. Obviously more to it.
Did you see him in pass pro at the Spring game? He was not a fit for our offense. He might have done good in the Option though.

I wonder how you would feel if your new boss told you that your job was safe... as long as you gained 70 pounds in the next three months.

But these are not jobs. These are one year scholarships.

I would be great with it if my boss told me I didn’t have to work, or at least half my job duties were just no longer required but I still got my current pay. Essentially if the kid was told he’d get school paid for but wouldn’t be playing on the team (wouldn’t have to lift, practice, watch film, etc) that’s basically what he’s being given. Still has to show up and do classroom work but workload got cut in half, meanwhile the education is free. It’s like taking away half of my duties but at most removing my bonus.

Didn't pay that close attention to him specifically. His offers out of HS were to Samford, Ball State, Louisiana-Monroe, Jackson St. etc. So yeah. One of those that Sewak and CPJ recruited specically for the option, like the Dowdy kid.

I agree with her. That sucks. It’s something the old regime refused to do. But it’s also something our competition has no problem doing. So it’s a big moral dilemma. Take the high road or compete. I think the choice has been made with the new regime.
Curious about how you know the old regime refused to do it. Seems we had plenty of players leave.

Here is one factor a lot of you are forgetting about: I'm not saying this is the case with any of our tranfers so far, but many of these players would not get into GT on academics alone. They get into school because of their athletic ability and their grades are "good enough." So when their athletic ability doesn't pan out, why do we owe them a GT degree? The other fallacy is the belief that these kids are just being pushed to the wayside or thrown into the streets. I can guarantee you there are plenty of good landing spots for any of these guys where they can play and earn a valuable degree, for free, and I'm sure all the coaches do what they can to help these guys find a place to play.

I guess one tool you could use to get unwanted athletes to leave is pulling academic assistance. You can keep your scholarship; but no proctors or tutors for you; sink or swim time. Not saying we've ever done that; but I have heard of it happening at other schools. The negative (other than it being a dirty way to treat a player) is that 'progress towards graduation' thingy the NCAA monitors now.

There are several players on another GT board saying that PJ did exactly this. As well he should've.

I don't recall this much attention paid to the numerous guys who transferred under PJ? Why the attention now?
Because reasons.

In all actuality, it probably would be a non-issue if that HS principal woman or whoever she is didn't start yapping her flapper on twitter.

No one's saying it's true. I'm saying I hope it's not true.

Why does it matter? It’s not like they aren’t adults. If what she says is true then fine. You’re acting like Collins went into a room of 5 year olds and said “YOU ALL MUST LEAVE”.

Cause if he was told to get off the team even though he was trying his hardest to contribute, that's a crappy way to treat S/A's. Tech told these kids that we wanted them here. If it turns out they aren't as good as we thought they were, or if we change schemes, or if we get some better recruits afterwards, that's on Tech, and it should be Tech that has to deal with the complications.

I don't think CGC did this, and I don't accept the Twitter complaints at face value. But if any coach withdrew a scholarship from a kid who was trying his hardest and not breaking any academic or disciplinary rules, that would be extremely unethical.

Dont academic scholarships get pulled for poor performance even if the kid is trying his hardest and not breaking any rules? Nobody is kicking them out of school.

But if I’m giving 100% in the Corporate Finance class but still fail. Guess what my scholarship is gone. I’m not sure why we are acting the student and athlete part not equally yoked. There are commitments that must be met on both ends to uphold my end of the bargain. If I’m caught you are 2-3 yrs and can’t even contribute on STs, that is an issue and maybe this level of competition is not for you

Not following you. I'm stipulating that the kid is keeping up his grades. And pulling a scholarship is the functional equivalent to kicking him out of school.
