Transfers heating up...as needed

That's actually not the problem. Rumor is that we will have around 9 transfer. We don't have guys lined up waiting to come in. We are a couple over right now, but normal attrition will typically clear that up. I don't think we're forcing anyone out because we have someone waiting to come in.
We will have 85 on scholly by July 1. The days of 79-82 on scholarship are over. I don't think we'll have but about 81-82 on scholly this time next week but I think we take 3/4 grad transfer OL/DL.

Why couldn’t they qualify for the academic ships funded by those opposing CGC doing what has been done before?

Wouldn’t you set up a special criteria for those few people?
That's what the medicals are all about – because you can't just do this (give them a scholarship but not count them against your 85) without there being some *other* reason (besides the fact we don't like you anymore) why the player is no longer taking up one of your 85.

Very hard to believe some can not grasp what you are saying.

Many here said this months ago, not out of brilliance, but because it has been going on for decades.

There is absolutely only one reason why they are trying to make it an “issue” now.

How horrific that would be. The inhumanity of CGC for doing his job, and in a better fashion than has been done for decades.

Grad transfers are the way to go. Get some immediate depth and help and also be able to sign a big 2020 class.

Why? Because he might have to carry a bottom 10 of the roster that he would otherwise not want? It's true that those guys aren't going to contribute, but the guys Geoff replaces them with aren't going to be difference makers anyway. Swapping out Paul's bottom 10 for Geoff's bottom 10 isn't going to make a difference in Geoff's record over the next three years.
Well I think we have a much bigger problem than you are letting on. It's more like a bottom 30

Lots of assumptions being made in this thread. One I haven't seen yet:
IF coach yanked the scholly, would it not be most likely because the player isn't putting in the effort given his very specific statements about making sure that people are buying into the culture and then going on to define that culture as one of effort and competition?

In that case, this is no different than kicking someone off the team for the nefarious violation of team rules.

Convince me I'm wrong.

If every year you get attrition of 5-10 athletes, and you are trying to make a big roster adjustment to accommodate a change in scheme, it just makes sense to be over-signing at this time of year. If CGC did that, but didn't talk to individual players about a worst-case scenario in which we are short of scholarships in August, that would be unfair to the athletes who aren't given a chance to consider their options. I think it's commendable that CGC is looking ahead and thinking about the possibility of scholarship cuts and including those guys in the decision making. Right now, athletes who are BTL have time to choose a small risk of losing their scholarship or transferring for more of a sure thing on and off the field. When fall camp starts, it will probably be hard, if not impossible, to secure a transfer.

Everyone gets exactly what he's saying, and I have no problem at all with kids leaving if they want playing time. And what ridiculous "issue" are you talking about?

Well this has nothing to do with the system being referenced.

We are talking about the academic ships that will be funded by you and others to help those souls that are being treated the same way other coaches have treated S/As for decades.

You have referenced them being denied a GT education and someone proposed you fund ships for them to go to school. Has nothing to do with NCAA. I merely suggested they did not have to meet the same academic requirements as other GT academic ship recipients. You will fund these ships and you can award them to who you want. In this case the former football players, regardless of academic standing.

I have no doubt CCG & CPJ are capable of chipping in to help, beyond just being decent men.

I think he's referring to the lady tweeting about people being "forced" out. That has been what's brought up all this thinking that we're pulling scholarships, forcing people out, etc. I have no idea how this is being handled or what the internals of the program are, I've just been stating my opinions and beliefs on how I think it should work. Also, if we are expecting around 9 transfers, then I seriously doubt any of them are being forced because surely all 9 aren't being forced, and only 3 or so is what we actually "needed" to get back to 85.

Huh? You completely ignored what I wrote.

I've concluded we were not meant to dialogue about this. Peace –

Sadly, this.

We all knew the roster was going to have to be reshaped. We need length and weight on both lines and we have positionless A-backs. Honestly, a lot of coaches would have gone scorched earth in this situation. CGC seems to care and I bet he will help these kids find landing spots where they can shine.

This is my belief as well. Hell look at what Satterfield did at UL. Nothing with current players (that I know of yet) but he basically pulled every 2019 offer that the previous staff had out there when he arrived.

I think he thinks I'm carrying a torch for CPJ, which is stupid.

In any event, I have no problem at all with roster management and am happy to give CGC the benefit of the doubt. Players leave all the time for all sorts of reasons, and I have no issue with any of it. I just don't want them forced off the team if they want to stay and are giving it their all. Let's hope that's not happening here – there's almost no reason to think it is!

The “issue” of people implying CGC is doing something unethical when it has been done by CPJ, CCG, CBL, CGO’L, CBC, CPR, CBC, CBF.

The roster? There are 85 scholarships and they're all on the roster. The two deep is 44. So we give out a lot of scholarship to kids that we don't exactly how good they'll end up being. That's a feature not a bug.

I gotta say, I'm absolutely flabbergasted by everyone being OK with this. Just another example of how out of touch I am.
I don't think any of them got kicked out of school or off scholarship, did they?
Better happens all the time.

I don't understand why the team has to carry someone who will not contribute. Sure, let them stay in school if they choose, on scholarship, but if you just can't cut it in college football, do the kid a favor and release him from team obligations

I would have loved to have a full ride and not have any practices or anything if I were in that situation.
