Transfers heating up...as needed

I think he thinks I'm carrying a torch for CPJ, which is stupid.

In any event, I have no problem at all with roster management and am happy to give CGC the benefit of the doubt. Players leave all the time for all sorts of reasons, and I have no issue with any of it. I just don't want them forced off the team if they want to stay and are giving it their all. Let's hope that's not happening here – there's almost no reason to think it is!
I'm a big CGC fan but agreed hoping we are doing everything possible to get these kids a GT degree if they have bought in and put in the effort. If they want to play and we told them they are not going to be playing at GT, then let them move on. If they know they aren't going to play but want a GT degree, put them on medical for the chronic hamstring issue.

Which is weird because that's what I think, too, so why were you arguing with me?

That's not the way academic scholarships work. If you want to make athletic scholarships similar to academic scholarships you would yank the scholly if the kid didn't make the two deep.

She also didn't say that the scholarship would be revoked. And it's Twitter and we only hear one sentence of one side of the story.
That is what I was asking for clarification on in my earlier post. If the player is told that they would be cut but could transition to a non-athletic scholarship because of the coaching change and stay at Tech, then she has no legitimate beef. If, however, they player is told they would be cut and lose their scholarship, she has a right to be protective of someone she clearly has a fondness for.

It would be nice if someone in the know could provide some clarity.

That is definitely not right. The athletic scholarship is not offered “just until we find someone faster than you.”

Agreed. But You gotta have a hammy. Wouldn’t be in favor of lying about that.

Modern football is so demanding on the body I wouldn’t be surprised if everybody has a hammy, though.

I don't understand why the team has to carry someone who will not contribute. Sure, let them stay in school if they choose, on scholarship, but if you just can't cut it in college football, do the kid a favor and release him from team obligations

I would have loved to have a full ride and not have any practices or anything if I were in that situation.
Agreed — provided there’s a legal and ethical way to accomplish that. That’s the point of the Medicals discussion.

This is where the line gets fuzzy. I don't think it's "we found someone faster than you." I think it translates to both academic and athletic scholarships this way:

"You aren't as smart as we thought you were."
"You aren't as athletic as we thought you were."

CGC should be able to use every means acceptable to the NCAA, just like his opponents would. Otherwise, you are asking him to run a program with one hand tied behind his back.

Literally every football player has had a concussion. Use that instead as an excuse to go on medical instead...these players put themselves at risk and ought to at least get a degree to show for it (if they do the work, and regardless of football evaluation). It should be cake walk.

Five pages since this morning, and most of it butthurt speculation. Haven't seen a thread get this much action in a while

ITT, @18in32’s fingers explode from fast and furious typing.

I assume when you sign the academic scholarship there are explicit requirements with respect to gpa etc. to maintain it, no one is going in blind there.

Doubt there is a "if you are not in the two-deep" clause in the athletic scholarship.

Not making the two deep is not "found someone faster than you". Not making the two deep is not performing at a desired level, the academic equivalent of being in good standing; but not gpa not high enough.

Those standards sometimes change in the middle of semester, like they did this year at our local university.

Lots of assumptions being made in this thread. One I haven't seen yet:
IF coach yanked the scholly, would it not be most likely because the player isn't putting in the effort given his very specific statements about making sure that people are buying into the culture and then going on to define that culture as one of effort and competition?

In that case, this is no different than kicking someone off the team for the nefarious violation of team rules.

Convince me I'm wrong.

So a coach can just say "I don't think the previous coaches players are putting forth the effort" and dump them all.

Hopefully not. We’re all just speculating what’s going on.
Is there a scintilla of evidence that any player has had a scholarship revoked, or even received a stern talking to about having a scholarship revoked? Or is all of this rumor, innuendo, and wholesale claptrap?

It is not rumor, it is more wholesale claptrap; but it beats talking about shades of gold.

Edit: My fortune cookie at lunch said:
Learn Chinese - juice

Which is funny because the restaurant was Vietnamese.
