Transfers heating up...as needed

FWIW, according to the 247 portal link there are only 3 GT players currently in the portal. I would be surprised if any of the 3 end up at an FBS school. Benson is not in there. The site says GT has 2 business days to put him in there so perhaps it happens today.

Cottrell graduated so not sure if he technically has to enter the portal as a grad transfer but many believe he will leave also. Ironically, he has been one of the team leaders during the coaching transition.

Here’s hoping CGC knows of a OL or two no one else knows about at Presbyterian or FAMU or something as grad transfers are the only way we have a legit 2 deep on the OL. The OL is extremely concerning.

We've got 210 and 230 lb WDEs right now, and 4 scholarship LBs. I think that's more deeply concerning than the OL.

I was wondering about Cottrell as well. Hard runner, but obviously not a tailback or full back. It will be hard to crack slot receiver, unless he is just exceptional at it. He wasn't dressed at the spring game. He was on the sideline, injured. Can't remember if he had a cast on or anything

Nate's situation is unique. He has speed and talent, just having a hard time finding his spot in this offense it seems. He's also a great character guy, vocal leader and leader by example, great locker room guy, absolutely loves Tech, and from what I hear coaches really like him. He loves the game also and I know he wants to play and I doubt he would give up the last year of eligibility. Being a graduate is probably weighing hard on his decision since he knows that he could open up a spot we need and he has already earned his degree. I think he wants to find his fit here though and remain with Tech and I think coaches would wish him to stay and hopefully can find a place to shine, but have also probably told him the reality that he may not see much field time if he can't. Wishing the best for him in whatever he does.

Valid point. All three are very concerning. It's why my expectations are so low this year. I hope somehow we can get to 6-6/4-4.

I don't think it's quite as bad as you let on. We've got Yondjouen who has come in looking like a 4-star immediate impact DE, at 255lb.

At linebacker we have Domineck, Quez, Thomas, Swilling, Curry, and Broadway who got quality time in the spring game. We will play very few 4 LB sets this year.

Yondjouen is a beast but it will take him awhile to learn the game and the speed of it. I think he will be like Gostis was in his first year. You'll immediately know he belongs but he will disappear at times also.

I don't know if his plans have changed but a few weeks ago Nathan told me that he was planning to enter grad school here and play next year. He has been extremely 'into' the new regime.

more concerned about DL than OL...though the transfer from Florida is a huge get

unfortunately he likely won't play in 2019. I think we'll continue to see more GA kids transfer back to GT the next two years. Hopefully beginning in 2020, they will just sign with GT rather than elsewhere so we get them all 4 years.

Which IMO is still such bullshit. If spoiled, whiny Tathan Martell can be granted waiver, EVERYBODY should this year. If he had such a problem with the internal stuff going on with the coaching staff, he should've expressed it and left then. His "coaching change" is hardly a change at all either. His HC retired, and the second in command there already has taken over. No new coaches or schemes, etc. He got scared of losing his spot to a more talented guy coming in, ran like a bitch, everybody in the world of college football knows it, yet he still was granted the waiver.

I’ve been thinking over the last week or so that this new transfer portal is likely to help us more than hurt us now that we have a traditional offense. We’re dead center in a recruiting hot bed and there’s gonna be a ton of guys we miss out on that end up wanting a transfer - and they have incentive to move back home to get a waiver to play immediately.

Already have a 4* WR, 5* DE, and now maybe another 4* CB in one offseason.

Yeah going to South Bend, Columbus, Austin, Ann Arbor sounds really cool when you're 17. Then, you turn 19 and miss your family and friends and realize there is this awesome school with a great coaching staff where all of your friends and family can see you play 30 minutes from home.

Doesn't he have a new child? How is that not the be all end all for needing to be close?

Domineck is playing WDE, not LB right now. He's the 230 #er I referred to. Yondjouen is playing SDE behind Dingle, who's up to 260 and pleasantly surprised me in the Spring game. Still undersized at SDE though. Owens, at 265, has been forced inside at DT.

So, that's a starting DL after Spring practice of 6-1 210 WDE, 6-3 295 NT, 6-4 265 DT, and SDE 6-3 260. Pump the sunshine anyway you want, but that's FCS size on a 4-3 DL. Why do you think we took a flyer on Clayton, who couldn't even make the 3 deep at UF?

Broadway (walk-on) is probably outplaying at least 1 of the 4 scholly LBs. Not sure that's encouraging.

At least I feel like we've got a solid starting 5 on OL, although virtually no depth.

Caralla has made some big strides already putting good weight on guys. So there's hope for further development.
