Benson Transferring

Yeah we covered it in the transfer thread last week. I would've loved to keep him but I think as deep as we are at RB, and the fact that he is behind the 8 ball having been out during Spring, he's making the right decision. He probably would've had limited snaps here due to depth and formations, and he can probably go somewhere else and be a feature back with a majority of the carries and showcase his skills for scouts. Wish him the best.

I was hoping he could make it, because he's a bowling ball, but his speed wasn't the best and probably can't cut the way our new offense would demand. Probably will make one hell of a fullback for an offense that uses the I formation more.

I mean. U can heal from an acl in a year. But most players tell you they arent right until year 2. I question his ability to go all out in fall practice anyway. So we haven’t been relying on him during this transition anyway. Sure we want to keep good kids and all i get that. But talking from purely a team impact standpoint I think we are fine.

There are different types of quality running backs. The old system, and this is neither praise nor knock, needed two very specific skill sets for A and B back. I formation tailback still pretty specific but a bit more general. Split back is different still. Power vs zone backs.

This staff wants a certain skill set. (Think of a not-so-thick B back who can pass pro.) Trying to show you can do something you have not done since HS if ever while coming back from injury is tough.

We are looking for running backs that can do it all. We will utilize zone, gap, and man blocking. Latavius Murray is a good example, currently on Saints.

Was not going to see significant playing time probably

I bet he would have seen significant playing time but definitely not 90% of snaps like he got in Johnson’s offense.

Unfortunately for us, it’s probably better for Kirvonte to go somewhere that isn’t as loaded at Running Back so he can get all the playing time and prove to the NFL scouts that he has recovered from the injury.

Still, it was good to have a KirVonte on the team. Like having D'Jasper Probincrux.

True, but especially with the roster construction now, we're going to rotate a lot of bodies at the position. Each player doesn't have to be complete to use the RB position well. Not just toting the ball with different blocking schemes or trying to hit the edge vs run between the tackles, goal line, etc., but also as blockers in both run/pass game, receivers for screens, receivers for outlets on pass plays, receivers running routes out of the backfield, and receivers that start in the backfield but then motion to the slot pre-snap.
