ESPN Article on our Program Direction

The hype is fun. CGC has certainly changed the culture here and in a good way. People are sitting up and taking notice.

Recruiting has improved as well, but it’s an uptick not a revolution. That’s ok at this point. He’s got people’s attention and doing a great job promoting GT.

However, he’s got to have a demonstratively upgrade to this season and next to make this hype turn into an elite program. That doesn’t necessarily mean a big W/L improvement, but being competitive in big games...moral victories, if you prefer. And it can’t be a one-off. Losing to Clemson, then getting blown out by UGag won’t help, but being in a position to win against 3 or 4 perceptively “superior” programs could put GT into a position to make yet another uptick in recruiting. Note, I’m talking only this year and next only.

Since Dodd (and including Dodd to some extent) we’ve made strides under Ross, O’Leary, Gailey (sorta) and Johnson only to prove unsustainable. If Collins can string together 2 or (omg)3 seasons of ACC championships (I’m talking about winning the championship game) with one or two playoff appearances, he may actually be able to make this into an actual elite program.

I’m excited and optimistic, but also trying to remain realistic... GT has a habit of chewing up and spitting out coaches.
The 2019 season is going to be difficult, and I don't see "a demonstratively upgrade" possible. We can hope for 6-6. but 5-7 is out there lurking. That is not the end of the hype, especially if we play an exciting brand of football and have some near misses. It will show us what the next step has to be, and it will significantly help maintain the upward trend in recruiting. Unless there is a total debacle in 2019, I think 2020 recruiting will still be great. Making our program elite is a tall order, given the performance over the last two coaching staffs. You don't just wipe that slate clean in one or two years. And everyone on our schedule is striving to get better, too. We might get better and still never get to the elite level. Should be interesting to watch, though.

We going 8-5 (including our bowl game)!
That would be very impressive. Your season begins with the former national champion and not to brag but your season could end with this years national champion. And the several games in between there aren't gimmies.

Clemson is the current, not former, National Champion. And our regular season always ends with “this year’s national champion” - assuming you mean Preseason National Champion. #14000

LOL. You guys have been "possibly this year's national champion" every frigging year since 1981. How has that worked out for you?

I would take that in a heart beat. Saban went 6-6 in first year at Alabama.
I am with you...if we could hit 8 this first year, I would be absolutely ecstatic. Don't expect it, and know it all takes time for such a dramatic scheme transformation to mature...but would be unreal to see.

I think 8 wins is the over/under. It could be 9. It could be 7. Collins and this staff are one of the best in CFB, but 10 wins would be a stretch for any first year coach really.
I agree with your over/under, but I'm typically overoptimistic at this point in any season.

However, the bolded part has yet to be proven. Lord, I hope they're one of the best, and overall, they're pretty damn good, but at this point claiming them to be "one of the best" is a bit over the top.

Why is this troll still here? Send the mother-ööööer to the Iron Maiden.

Leave it to some gomer GA fan to "brag" about something that hasn't even happened.

So he picks us to finish #2 in the country and he's a troll?

Bet it’s 6 in Vegas
