Raising that bar way up there, eh?
Well people get pissy if I say we will make it to a bowl game this year because I am raising expectations too high. It is only fitting that somebody moan because I set the bar too low for the Clemson game.

It's ST, so your abuse is inescapable. Of course you know this all too well. That's what great about this board, that everyone can go öööö themselves. See you tomorrow.

But more to your point, as long as we do about as well or better against Clemson as in 2018, I don't see any reason for alarm bells.

Can that even be done? Have assistants that are really good and at the same time have then want to stay on as an assistant at Georgia Tech if they are getting opportunities for advancement elsewhere?
We DID hire a lateral move assistant from our fishin hole.

That’s because we made a bowl game last year by the skin of our nuts with a 10th year head coach and a roster that was all of his making.

But it was a disappointment for everyone. Making a bowl was a real low bar.

I expect us to make a bowl. We should get at least 2/3 from Cit/Temp/usf. We should get 4 in conference. Especially since we get Clemson before we start getting the groove of the new schemes. It would have sucked to take a loss to uva/unc/vt just because we played them early.

Cit, Temp, USF, Duke, UNC, Pitt is the most likely grouping but I’d be surprised if we didn’t upset a couple others and probably lose one or two listed. Making a bowl this year would be an unequivocal accomplishment.

I looked at Clem's son's scores from last year, and we were only 1 of 4 teams to score over 20 points against them. ND and Bama couldn't do it in the playoffs. Texas A&M and Syracuse look to be the only teams that didn't get the "garbage time" experience. I think we can pat ourselves on the back a little.
We've scored every home game since 1958 or something like that. So yes, Pat on the back. No shutouts at BDS in my lifetime.

I think our players are better than they are given credit for. I expect ST to be vastly improved. CGC is a solid defensive coach. Our D should be ok. ST will be 1000% better.

I see a one game drop back from last season, which was a game or two worse than it should have been because ST and conditioning. Both of those things should be improved.

(I think the old S&C coach was the worst on the old staff)

Edit: Also, I expect vt to be a ööööshow this year.

Thinking about the new offense, I don’t think we should be any worse than when we ran the diamond with Vad Lee. We were no more talented than we are now. And we didn’t practice the option enough to be good at it. We only had about four plays out of the diamond.

ST and D should be much better than then.

I doubt spreads will be more than a touchdown in any conference game after this week. Any single digit game is nearly a tossup, and i expect special teams will be vastly improved. If so, that is at least a game improvement and probably 2. We have some people who can do damage on offense if we get them the ball in space. I will be disappointed with no bowl game, and continuing at least a .500 conf record as usual. It is our long term history to be at least good, occassionally great and rarely bad. We won't be a bad football team.

I believe we will make a bowl game as well.

GT should be the final advancement opportunity.

This. If you've followed Tech for a long time, you pretty much expect we are going to shock the öööö out of somebody this year regardless of our record. And we are pretty much going to öööö the bed some time this year. Curry was the master of this, but Johnson was pretty good at it, too. It may take FSU ten years to recover from that blocked FG. If history is the guide, we have at least two and maybe as many as four players right now that we are overlooking but who will shock us with how good they become during the year. I was dreading Godsey as qb; I don't think Brooking made the high school all state team. Last year this time, I doubted we would make an extra point much less a FG all season. Collins has a solid floor on which to build. And that floor is not a losing record.

And I think a lot of recruits just saw the TO as antiquated. While I love option football, it's not what most 16-18 year-old athletes are dreaming of playing in. I had hoped that kids would see how successful the offense was with guys like Dwyer and Thomas and it would help offset previous perceptions, but that just never materialized in recruiting. PJ's attitude probably didn't help in this regard.

The schematic advantage helped compensate for this somewhat, but think about all the times we had backs caught after a 20-30 yard run, then fumbled or otherwise failed to score that drive, and imagine someone like Dwyer taking that same run to the house instead.
Great insight

That simply means it was the HC's fault for not recruiting more Dwyer's & Bebe's

If you know your system is better with Dwyer & D Thomas' then it is imperative that you recruit more when they leave

Good deal, cause we have Vad Lee back. They are calling him Lucas Johnson now.
