Play Calling

Graham needs to start as he seems a much better fit for RPO concepts than Oliver. If the team is still doing dumb shotgun on 3rd or 4th and short, then the OC can be shown the door. ;)

But yeah, with a defense littered w/all conference and some all-american types, tough to judge with a below average o-line.

Cringed on 3rd and short running from the gun, but no way we were going to out man them that way. Lick our wounds go into week 2 and get at it.

Not what I was hoping to see at all; but too early to panic. Hopefully we look way different next week.

Always hopeful we’d at least give them a tough game, but turnovers just killed. Oliver may be a great athlete but he’s not the guy. The fact that they didn’t switch sooner is kind of perplexing. But makes me worry that’s the best we got. Don’t have any different outlook on 2019. Tech played 60 mins IMO. Graham looked smooth. Bad breaks/plays early changed things

Our OL didn't look that much worse than Alabama's did in the game before.

The first time running zone read out of the gun on short yardage for no gain was cringeworthy. The next 4 times really make you wonder about the competency of a play caller. Regardless of who the competition is.

Patenaude hadnt really impressed me during the off season. And my opinion certainly didn’t improve after that ööööshow. But agree that you can’t write him off after 1 game in a new scheme. It could be that we only had 5 or 6 plays that he really felt comfortable with this early and the playbook will expand each week.

I’d like to see more gap scheme plays and power football.

We didn’t run power one tricking time. We didn’t run any counter treys. We didn’t run any iso.

Our lines are soft and there’s too many missed assignments.

BUT, I did see some glimpse of talent and some good things. They DO have talent. Now it’s about doing it consistently every play.

We should have lined up under center in double tight I formation and do strictly run/PA pass.

I’ll reserve judgment on play calling when our O line isn’t getting run over on every play. All play calls go out the window when you can’t do anything - just like last year and the year before that.

I think TOs cadence or movements were tipping the snap. Clemson was able to get a head start on virtually every play after the first couple series.

That’s totally valid and a good point. I find it crazy that we didn’t run (at first glance) any gap scheme runs. Are they not installed? Are we just not going to do them? Are we not talented enough to run them?

We now have valid game film on our guys & our plays. For the first time, they have something to study, make improvements & adjust personnel groupings. I hope the result is our offense having a little more identity the next 2 weeks.

Clemson’s D had more to do with their ineffective play than anything else. Their LB was faster than anyone on GT’s offense.

Why are people throwing out crazy statements left and right after losses. Yesterday it was that this Clemson team would have blown out our 2014 squad. And now it’s some Clemson LB is faster than the reigning 100m champ out of Florida.

Hell Blancato looked faster than anybody on their defense.

Their defense covered space more effectively than we created spacing. Happy?
