Positives from Clemson

Defense was solid, but ran out of gas for obvious reasons. Clemson exploited our aggressiveness by running a lot of counter and trap plays.

This is made worse by us not giving the 10 yard cushion. Our DBs are in a tough position to make the stops at the second level.
Agree and disagree about the DBs. Yes it's tough for them to to get off blocks and make tackles, but they can influence a lot about the direction of a play based on the angles they take at running backs.

Etienne's 90 yd counter TD is a perfect example. Our nickel corner took the inside angle on the play, allowing Etienne to bounce outside where he had 2 blocks, and got pancaked for his trouble. Had he forced him to the inside, a host of defenders were in position to make the tackle.

Our defensive play calling confused TL and led to some opportunities. Could've had another couple picks. Loved the buzz under DE... Tre Swilling played well. Mason played well.

It's weird but I too took a lot of positives from a 52 to 14 beat down. I suppose the score wouldn't have been much different if we were still running the TO anyway. Last year's score was 49-21 at home so not much different.

Surprisingly, the biggest disappointment I had was Swilling getting caught by Lawrence on the INT return. C'mon man, you have to outrun a QB as a DB!
If he had made a move to the inside, he could have scored

Embarrassed to ask, but last year was Lawrence their QB when they played us? Can’t remember.

It's just one loss, and one that we realistically had little or no chance of avoiding this year. We got film from a real game to study for correcting mistakes and helping decide who should be starters going forward. Our real season starts in 8 days.

The biggest positive is that the game was on the ACC Network so most of the country didn’t see it and will only see the final score. Now it’s up to Collins to make the adjustments.

IMO we have a distinct area for improvement: the OL. It's a positive that we flashed ability and athleticism essentially everywhere else, but a bit unsettling that the OL needs so much work and we had 0 signees last year. Next year will be a lot of true freshmen unless we get any immediately eligible transfers.

I'm thanking my college football stars we drew Coach Key.

Even though he’s not a fan favorite on here Tobias juke on that big run was littttt. Swilling is a baller. I expected it to be worse honestly. Very hopeful and feel that we can get to a bowl. Lot of football left gentlemen.

At least Geoff did some dumb things in a game that didn't matter. He can learn not to do that again.

True dat. I wonder how many people could watch the game.
