Above The Line Watch

Doesn't have to clear the portal to transfer to Kennesaw. If he is still injured, and hasn't cleared that way, it'd be a shame if he didn't take a medical at GT

Doubt we would medical him for a 5th year. Feel bad he only got to play basically one year. I really do wonder what happened to him.

This. It's a motivational tactic that gives "backups" that will play a clear distinction from "backups" that won't. Honestly I like it a lot, because you can allow more players to feel like starters, and also make it clear to other players that they are not ready to contribute yet and will either need to get more experience, up their game, or go somewhere else.
More players feel relevant, part of the team, contributing.

I am willing to give this philosophy the benefit of the doubt but if it turns into a Paul Hewitt substitution for no reason strategy, I will complain.

I think CGC addressed this in a recent interview. He stated that they measure "value above replacement" for each player, so they know and attempt to quantify how much of a step down any lower-rung player would represent. This is super cool if they can really measure that and trust it is somewhat real.

Now I'm going to speculate on one way the staff may use these VAR ratings. Where the drop offs at a given position are seen to be deep, that might be an opportunity to use a cross-trained player instead of "next man up". A player whose natural position is safety has a VAR rating at safety. The same player has a different (lower?) VAR rating at CB. Using that data, you can make an informed decision about who is really the next man up.
this is what most coaches do... especially say, on the OL. "Getting the best 5" is a saying... it means even if a guy is a better tackle than a guard, he's still a better guard thn the next guard, so you play him at G. same with a lot of DBs.

I'll be interested to see how many traffic cops we have on the sideline to manage the flow. Hope it's not the same ones outside Peters Park after the game.

I think of the BTL along the lines I remember O'Leary supposedly told a player, "If you find yourself actually in the game, immediately call a timeout as somebody has screwed up."

I don't think this will affect substitution at all. We rotated in a similar number of players in the past, just using different verbiage.

I heard this, too, when CGC talked about "value above replacement." Really got me curious how they measure that.

So three more quarters of "where the hell is James Graham?" followed by one quarter of actual James Graham?

Mmmmkay.

Not that TO won't be the starter vs. USF, I believe the bolded players indicate starters in the previous game. Only evidence I have is hearsay, a weak memory and the fact that Week 1's ATL list had no one in BOLD.

This is correct. CGC will not name starters for an upcoming game.

Using an ATL doesn't seem to completely jive with competition is King it seems.

2 other changes:

* Malloy came off the RB list.
* Blancato was added to the Returners. My guess is he might be the "sure-handed" returner if that is what we need.

Good catches. Forgot all about Malloy. Dont recall if he got touches last week.
