Don't have any intimate knowledge of the program or the inner workings, but it seems really foolish to have run Fulmer out at HC years ago. Equally, it also seems really foolish to have brought him back as AD. Time will tell I guess.
I'm still shocked they ran Johnny Majors out of town.

Schiano would have taken the job. Not sure about Leach.
I don't have any inside info, but I would think Leach would love to prove himself at a big-time program with big-time resources. If you think recruiting to Knoxville is hard, imagine trying to recruit to Pullman, WA.

Was there or was there not some head scratching when they ran Fulmer off? That's what I am alluding to. No expectation that he would STILL be there. No need for the sarcasm either.

Wasn't sarcasm. Johnny Majors was a great coach – won a nat'l champ at Pitt and immediately 'went home' when Tennessee called. He had pretty good success.

So I was shocked when Majors was pushed out, lo those many years ago. Look at his final years... In 1989 the Vols went 11-1, won the SEC, won the Cotton Bowl and finished #5. In 1990 they went 9-2-2, won the SEC, won the Sugar Bowl, and finished #7. In 1991 they went 9-3, finished third in the SEC, lost the Fiesta Bowl, and finished #14. That's a pretty good three-year record!

The very next year, in 1992, he underwent emergency heart surgery in August. Asst Coach Fulmer led the team to 3-0 record, then Majors came back and went 5-3. UT fired him and hired Fulmer. The story of how he was pushed out by Fulmer and Fulmer took over was, for a long time, considered evidence that Fulmer was a back-stabber. In a sense, some would say to Fulmer these days, "what comes around, goes around." But of course there are two sides to every story.

Please accept my apologies for my misunderstanding.

I encourage you to visit volnation :rotfl:

Place is in full meltdown mode.

Will someone with an account start a " Schiano would be 2-0' thread :lol2:
Tennessee won't be much fun, come mid-season as their truckstop coach will be unemployed and back selling lottery tickets. vols will want to be first in line to catch the next big-time mistake and won't wait too long. Saban is laughing like hell right now!!

that said, the smoldering dumpster fire that will turn FSS (full öööö show) will be down in Caneland. they will quit on Diaz after one or two more losses. a couple of easy ones but they'll öööö the bed at home against virginia and then an improved louisville team (satterfield excellent coach) late in the year. i can't wait to watch this thing blow up!! maybe we can help throw some gas on the fire, who knows?

According to a Tennessee fan I know, Fulmer was called "Judas Brutus" by Majors. Not sure if true or not about that. However, Fulmer did take the opportunity to push Majors out, no doubt

Tennessee fans said at the time the program had become stale and needed a new direction.

My sources aren't any more reliable than anyone else's, but a UT guy that I worked with said that yes, Fulmer undermined Majors. Karma.
