Our offense is unimaginative

This thread is about the offense, so I was talking about the offense. The offense looked much, much worse than last year.
This may be the worst offensive performance I've seen in at least a decade. This was worse than any Chan game I can recall.

Less than 4 yards per rush attempt.
Less than 4 yards per pass attempt.
A third of our first downs came from penalties.
Only scored on 2 of 12 drives.
25% 3 and outs.
66% of drives got 30 yards or less.
Points per drive: 1.16

Both scoring drives benefited from 15 yard penalties on USF. Scoring drive 1 would have been 3 and out if not for pass interference. Scoring drive 2 was basically "run the QB and the RB every down." The entire rest of the game was an offensive abortion.

I dare someone to find a worse game by GT, statistically speaking, since Bill Lewis. I'm not sure Bill Lewis ever had a game that bad.

And this was versus South Florida, a team that gave up 7 TDs to Wisconsin.

Our yards-per-play actually got worse between Clemson and USF.

A little of Friedgen? You've got to be kidding......that's almost blasphemous.
I got the distinct impression that someone had a playbook from the NCAA Football XBox game and was literally rolling dice to decide what play to call.

My take on the rest of the season, is that we should run Oliver and Mason zone read option two thirds of all playcalls and hope for the best. Doing so would have probably doubled our scoring output. It's the only chance we have at winning any games outside of Citadel.

Ahh yes! That's the one. Clap.

It's the one we all repress in our minds so it only lives in our subconscious id.

That's what this game feels like to me. A horrible game vs a terrible opponent that we were lucky to win.

Yep. CPJ's first season. A hot garbage game that needed a Dwyer miracle. No way we beat UGAg that year, did we?

South Florida is more talented than Gardner Webb.

Way to throw the kids under the bus. Most of those same players put up over 600 yards on USF last year. We even passed for 183 yards (66 today).

We have enough talent to do better than that. It's just gonna take time.
I saw very very little of Ralph out there today. USF's generosity had a great deal to do with this "W". Mason's 99 yards and QB pressures did too. Continuity on O will remain elusive with QB rotation.

I'm a big CPJ fan, and I really like what Collins is trying to do.... but it's gonna take some time. Before some of you jump off the bridge, remember that. Also remember that we lost two starting offensive lineman early in the game and replaced one of them with a walk-on.... and this being a thin unit to begin with.

I really didn't see the QB competition as the problem. Our OL couldn't protect or block well. Cooper and Minihan going down in the first half hurt

Only 26 yards short of our last game under CPJ. Look, I was a big CPJ fan, but it was time for a change.

Exactly. A walk on not even listed as ATL before the game. Even he didn't expect to play

My thoughts as well. WHAT THE?? WHO THE?? On a 50 yarder no less. BK has a hard time with PATs. Really weird. I'm assuming WW wasn't feeling above the line this week.
Poor coaching judgement maybe? When practice performance in 1 week comes up against a huge Game Day performance database---go with the best chance for us to win Coach!? If you must try the FG, then do it with the best kicker on the team, but even better---punt the friggin ball.

I was at this game, and it was gross.

Football is not all about offense. Sometimes it pays to play decent defense as well. Here are some gems...

https://www.espn.com/college-football/boxscore?gameId=302542305

https://www.espn.com/college-football/matchup?gameId=322730059

Then of course there is this series which highlights our shortcomings...

https://www.espn.com/college-football/matchup?gameId=401013145

https://www.espn.com/college-football/game?gameId=400937522

https://www.espn.com/college-football/matchup?gameId=400756933

This is the orange bowl, so i’ll give CPJ a pass...but this offensive performance was completely brutal to watch and definitely set us back from a national perspective...
