What was the HBCU that had the awesome band and good crowd support?

I agree that it's too early to be over scheduling. We are already way over scheduled that year.

Tech has Clemson, Georgia and ND that year. You guys really want to schedule yourselves right down to 7-5 ceilings every year?
I listed a bunch of mid-tier programs. And yes I'd rather go 7-5 with a loss to Tennessee/Kentucky in front of 75K; than 8-4 with a win over Citadel in front of 30k. Playing Citadel brings zero value to the program

I think it was South Carolina State. I agree we should schedule them or another similar school as our annual FCS opponent.

I’d rather play Charlotte, South Alabama and Miami Ohio one year and finish 10-2 and ranked #12. That adds a ton of value to the program. 7-5 against Notre Dame, Auburn and UCF adds nothing long-term.

In 2014 we played Wofford, Tulane and Georgia Southern. That seemed to work out alright.

Everyone takes their FCS cupcake. You'd be dumb not to.

Then you'll bitch about not winning.
Well some on here will for sure, but but not me. Think back about your favorite Tech games over the years. I bet you dollars to doughnuts that your favorite games are against good opponents. The more good teams we have on the schedule, the more excited I am for the coming season, and the more exposure we have. Which do you remember more vividly from 2003... Our upset win over Auburn, or our 24-17 win over Vanderbilt?

I state this as a personal preference, knowing full well that a truly great nonconference schedule is unlikely to happen as, like you say, we are allowed to basically collect a win that counts toward bowl eligibility for free, and we would be silly to not accept that. If we can get where Collins is planning to get us though, it would sure be nice to not worry too much about our schedule because we are just that good.

VT 2009. My favorite game I saw live. Loudest I’ve ever heard BDS too.

OCC should look like this every year:
uga
fcs
G5
Rotate between G5, decent P5(favor traditional rivalries) and ööööty P5.

Home and home for P5, 2 and 1 for some G5.

Don’t count on it. Look at who the teams that are on top are playing this year:

Alabama: New Mexico State, Southern Miss, Western Carolina (and Duke)
Clemson: Charlotte, Wofford

We and Clemson already have a P5 rivalry on the schedule, which Alabama doesn’t have to deal with. But the point is, just because Alabama is on top doesn’t mean they feel they have the luxury to schedule harder games. They keep it easy because all they care about is the CFP.

I’ll bet dollars to doughnuts we will never play in the CG with two losses versus none.

I get it, but not every game has to be memorable. Those cupcakes come in handy when bowl selection time comes. No need to self handicap ourselves in yet another area.

According to Saban, its because no one else wants to play them.

Notre Dame should be forced by the ACC to schedule this as their home game vs us at the Benz. Lady Swofford needs to get on it.
