Been a whole lot of junk on the board since Saturday. Changing topics a little bit, has anyone else been surprised/disappointed with the attendance? Seemed to be a whole lot of excitement about the new regime but attendance for both games still was lackluster. Don’ t think it says as much about who the coach is but more about the fan base. Remember back in 1990 a week after upsetting #1 UVA in Charlottesville, coming home to play VT and the crowd was ridiculously small. So maybe that is simply who GT is, no matter who the coach.

the fanbase is small as the alumni are stretched far and wide and small to begin with. The school has little to no regional appeal currently. If that can be changed attendance will be better.

The first home game after the 1990 National Championship season didn’t sell out.

As for this season, it’s been hot as hell and USF and Citadel aren’t appealing games frankly -although both, unfortunately, went down to the wire.

Increasing attendance means attracting non-alumni fans. Attracting non-alumni fans requires a long period of sustained success. The last part is an area Tech has never excelled.
Another part of it is making the experience appealing which for some reason Tech cannot figure out. I don’t know what morons we have running concessions, but they are in over their heads. Is it too hard to figure out that people may need drink carriers? I ordered from the Sonny’s stand and had to balance two drinks (that they gave me without lids) and two trays of food to get back to my seats.

And while it’s not the end of the world....it’s the same little stuff over and over for us.

How you do anything is how you do everything.

I thought it was good; not great. FCS opponent, still very hot.

From what I can tell, there is a larger base in the upper East and upper north than the last few seasons.

The students didn't show up in the South Stands and that was disappointing. The crazy, gold guys were over there all by themselves. I think after the 1st quarter they ran to the other end but no one wanted them to let them sit down so they had to go back to the south and sit by themselves. Poor guys.

The last two seasons were uninspiring. The first two games this season were uninspiring.

Looking at the schedule, attendance this year is going to be bad.

This. How was attendance in the O’Leary years?

I thought it would be better, given it was hot but not nearly as hot as the week before and we were coming off a win, though the level of opponent tempered that.
All in all, it was disappointing. By the start of overtime, from our vantage point, it looked close to empty. There were fans leaving in the fourth quarter, and it wasn't the heat chasing them out.

Was cold as all for that VT game.

Well, GT reaps what it sows. When you spend years not admitting Georgia students, many of whom with loyalty to GT, yet bring in students from out of state or country, you not only lose future GT families in Georgia but you alienate many current GT families. But this has been discussed before. GT reaps what it sows. I know many GT families in this state who have great kids with the GPA and SAT but get passed over. Needless to say the money, loyalty, and attendance go elsewhere. It’s so sad to see.

96 degrees and an FCS opponent is a tall order for anyone. I was there, but I kinda sorta understand those who were not.
It was more like 86 degrees on Saturday. Pretty nice actually.

But the most empty I can recall seeing BDS.

In THIS part of the country, and south of Clemson, beating Cuse, uconn, bc, tulane, Pitt, uvag, vt, puke, unc, ncsu, wake, ville mean nothing without also beating ugag and other big boy teams.

ACC Coastal champs? BFD in ATL.

It in no way can be this hard to understand can it?

You want fans to spend hard earned $? Then play hard butt football against top 10 teams.

Get rid of elitist excuses.

CGC understands this.

There’s a really old fella that sits on my row who has worn a jacket zipped all the way up to both home games so far. Not sure how he didn’t pass out at the USF game.

THIS. I think GT admissions has a quota for the max number of potential football fans they will admit, else the criteria naturally minimizes the number of students interested in sports. A few decades of mostly nerds with an aversion to sports leads to a half empty stadium. That plus Bobby Dodd pooped all over the Atlanta market when he took us out of the SEC and we have never recovered market share.
