Jordan Yates

I see the point you're trying to make and I'm not arguing the size thing. But I'm pretty sure George Godsey would have been my pick for 2nd best QB over Justin Thomas. Godsey will forever be one of the best Tech QB's, if for no other reason than the # of consecutive wins over the mutts, coupled with his taunting them on national television by holding up the 3 fingers to show '3 times in a row, bitches'!

Don't forget Billy Lothridge who was 3-0 against UGAG and was on a GT team that beat #1 Alabama in 1962.

Billy was before my time so I don't remember him. But I was specifically responding to the 'best QB's in the last 30 years' reference.

I thought about that as soon as I posted it. I'll still take JT, but Godsey is a reasonable #2 for sure. I remember being shocked at how good he was as a starter when he took over for Joe Hamilton.

Speaking of Godsey and JoeHam, what the hell is Friedgen doing these days?
Kicked back on his deck at his house out on Lake Oconee, smoking cigars, drinking beer and eating lots of good food would be my bet.

For the current college spread offense, height and arm strength are way down the list of important attributes, IMO.

Pocket presence > accuracy >> mobility >>>> arm strength > height

Look at Oklahoma's recent QBs as an example.

If I'm choosing between a guy that can stand in the pocket, read a defense, pick out a target, and run away if pressure comes and a 6'5 guy who can sling it 70 yards, I'm taking the first guy in a heartbeat. OBVIOUSLY if you can find a guy who can do it all, you take him. But unless we start taking QBs away from Clemson, Bama, and UGA, I don't see that happening anytime soon.

We've gone beyond normal fan think, where the second string QB is always the answer, straight to the forth string QB is the answer

Forget fourth string, I was at my nephews game Saturday -North Forsyth 7th grade vs Milton. The Milton QB is supposedly the top rated QB in the state at his age (so I was told prior to the game-I haven’t been able to confirm this).

Anyway, while my nephews team prevailed (he threw some good passes out of the RPO that my brother-in-law runs, the Milton QB was damn good -threw two TD strikes of 40 yards down the sideline. I’ve never seen a kid that age (and he looks to be near 6 feet already) throw that well.

So come class of 2025, I expect to see this kid starting as a freshman at GT.

You did watch last year's CFP-CG where a 6-6 225lb QB that played his HS FB in GA destroyed a Bama team that was perceived by experts to be Saban's strongest Bama team

In modern times the 6-5 & up guys are mobile also

In order after you get your size strength profile

Accuracy

Decision making

Arm Talent

Mobility

This is how you choose QBs

QBs are hard to find you gotta WORK HARD to recruit good ones, you don't just take any 5-11 kid cause we're his best Offer

Milton being good at football and basketball is one of the strangest turn of events.

Just goes to show you what can be done when you work hard at Recrootin

Lotsa recrootin on the HS level nowadays, Playoff caliber teams in a State like GA are no longer comprised of Kids that grew up in the same school zone

Once again the reference point we choose to use is the best QB in the country who would likely be the #1 overall pick in the NFL draft this upcoming season if he was able to declare. We get it...you like tall QBs.

Git yo mind rite

If the best QB in the Country went to HS in GA and is an Academic Qualifier then we need to make sure those types play their CFB at GT

I'm afraid that the Previous HC has lowered the Standards of too many GT Fans

Once upon a time we Recruited Kenny Anderson, Marbury, and D Scott, theoretically there's more competition for Top MBB players than there is for elite FB players

We don't get our share of the elite Academic Qualifiers from GA HSs

Which elite CFB teams have QBs that don't run?
I was joking. See my posts above. The run sets up the pass. We are good at running. Yates is a great dual threat QB. Why would we try to avoid using our quarterbacks running ability as a potential weapon?

I saw where Alabama got a commitment from another 5* top 300 espn quareback. His name is Bryce Young 6 feet 180. I wish he would have chosen us.

That's a whole lot of words to say "we need to recruit good QBs and not bad ones". I'm not sure who you're trying to argue with - there's not a person on this board who wouldn't take Trevor Lawrence at GT.

Let me ask you this... if the next Kyler Murray wanted to come to GT, would you want us to turn him away?

We have four freshman or sophmore QB's and one commitment. We do not need to worry about redshirting anyone. We need to move some QB's to WR or DB in the spring. We need to recruit QB's who are top level passers with pocket presence. Height would be nice but passing ability is the key.

I agree. We need someone potentially capable getting some playing time this year so we have a chance next year. Our future QB's of three years from now may not even be a recruit yet.

If Yates can play, put him in. Back up with Oliver and get Oliver on the field in many ways and hype him for the Heisman. (Joe Flacco went to wide out frequently when Lamar Jackson came in for a few plays.)

I guess you missed the part where I clearly wrote equal talent

If we could find an academic qualifier that is 6-3 230lbs like a Justin Fields for example, why accept a 5-11 guy that might have equal talent but be less durable

Why are GT Fans so quick to accept that the undersized Recruit or the Recruit that is 1 step slow is the best that we can ever hope for?

Watson
Fromm
Fields
Trevor Lawrence

All Academic Qualifiers for GT and we failed to get any of them, that is the damage that the previous system did to GT FB long term, now we have to dig our way out and change how we are perceived among GA HS Recruits

Once upon a time the Top2 QBs in this State were Charlie Ward & Shawn Jones (both won Nattys BTW)

We got one of them, and rest they say is history

With an "offensive genius" as our HC for 11 straight yrs were we ever in play for a Top2 in-state HS QB coming out of GA?

Hard to believe top QBs in this State didn't respond to offensive geniuses for 11 straight yrs

I think that you are underselling how absurd this example is. It's been said by many that he's the best NFL QB prospect since Peyton Manning. He's probably the best high school QB from the state of GA ever.
