WTH?

We haven’t focused on D for 11 years. Our D backs are markedly improved this year. We lost our best DL to tragedy. Our still inadequate LBs are playing better than our inadequate LBs last year.

“Can’t count on them anymore”? We haven’t been able to for 11 years, even when coach ego inherited a roster that had at least 3 fairly high NFL draft choices on D.

But for 11 years it was more important to have a roster overloaded with a, b, QBs, and “athletes” than having enough OL & DL to build a team.
Again, I was referring to the first two games of the season, where the defense looked pretty stout. Not previous seasons.

I remember when we came out of bye weeks looking sharper and better.

That usually happens with good coaching.

And I remember last year when for at least 1/2 the games we came out not ready to play, and quite a few times the other team scored on the first drive.

Yeah. They sucked last year too. I complained all last season about the fire drills in our backfield. We basically survived last year on an scrambles and keepers because of a öööö o line.

It had its moments last year, though. I rewatched the Va Tech and Louisville games, and yeah, both teams were bad, but the O line just hammered them into submission.
We weren't good at pass blocking, for one reason, because we kept the same wide splits. We got pressure up the middle more than off the edges, IIRC, and it's why PJ would keep a B back and A back into help out. Not that it helped all that much.

Collins better land some DT sometime soon or I guess we will just continue to suck. Can’t fire him
