Well, let's put it this way...

There were a handful of possessions in the second half against Temple that Tech looked like it had a real offense. In this game, the offense looked like the genuine article for nearly the entire second half and actually made it a bit of a ball game. So, yes, that's progress. If they can play sixty minutes at that level and take some pressure off the defense, they'll start being legitimately competitive in these games.

First half the defense played their guts out up until the last two possessions when they started to run out of gas. When they forced UNC into that initial turnover the offense HAD to get points there. HAD to. When Graham missed the deep shot on third down, I knew that probably would bite them. It's probably a completely different game if he hits that pass, because I think one of the biggest things the offense needs is confidence.

The defense simply does not have the depth to be on the field as much as they've been the first five games of this season, particularly on the defensive line. You could see them wilting over the course of the game: first struggling to set the edge against the run, then started to get pushed around up the middle, then generating zero pass rush from the Second Quarter on. Tech has a pretty good secondary. But, if you're having to make a bunch of tackles against the run AND cover for a long time every play because there's no pass rush, well, you saw the result. I feel for those kids, because the D-line is a mix of young men who are too inexperienced and/or lack the talent to be playing the amount of snaps they're playing right now. The tragic loss of Brandon Adams coupled with the NCAA decision not to give Clayton his waiver really has been a double-whammy.

Offensively, I thought the O-line actually pass blocked a little better in this game, but stunk out loud run blocking. They kept calling this wratched looking sweep off left tackle and it was, minimum, a three yard loss every time. Graham played like a talented young QB in his first start: pretty uneven performance. He missed the important early deep shot early in the game and had a couple of pretty awful INT's where he stared down the receiver on the first one and on the second one... ???... no idea why he's chucking it to a true freshman TE into triple coverage. But, you also saw him convert some third downs with some crisp throws into tight windows. You saw the two good deep balls. You saw him get the ball out quick as a rifle on the bubble screens and flare passes. And, as a consequence, you started to see what some of these weapons can actually do. I think this WR corps is probably better than any of us knows because they simply haven't had a QB capable of delivering them the ball up until this point.

Now let's see if Graham can continue to develop and improve next time out and get the ball out to these weapons so they can also continue to develop and improve.

Most of the OL we have left aren’t ever going to run block well in this system. They can learn to pass block in this system. The coaches knew this. Square peg round hole. This isn’t a system vs system debate but more just simply the way it is. We can’t do what we want with those parts and no reason to be mad at those guys or run down the old coach it’s just the way it is.

The positive is they are getting good game experience for their back up roles next year.
