I thought this was the 2nd consecutive week where we had a solid gameplan. I thought we had something with the read option that CDP could’ve called a little bit more. UNC front alignment made the blocking execution a bit easier for us to know who and where to block. This weeks reinforces what my guy Sean Bedford thoughts after sitting with CBK. We are close, but too often we have 9/10 doing the right thing instead of all 11. As the yr progresses, hopefully we’ll see all 11 on the same page:

RUN GAME:

Read option: I thought this is something we should’ve ran more of. Freezing the option guy created a natural hole and that allowed to finally get to the 2nd level creating favorable 1on1s in the open field

Good read here. Option guy goes inside, Quinney seals the PSLB and we’re off to the races. Late slide gets us a no call here

Bad read by James. Exact same results as above but he decides to give. I like him 1on1 with the WLB for a 1st down

Good read. Quinney was able to get up and seal both ILB to allow the big gain. Now the RB needs to get his head up. Should’ve probably taken this tk the sideline after getting to the 2nd level

Inside/Outside Zone

Coach P has done a decent job stretching out defenses horizontally in effort to get favorable number counts in the box. Here is well blocked inside zone. One of the few games our OL has been to get to get to the 2nd level

Here is outside zone. You can tell bc it appears the OL is running to the sideline. Looked to be blocked pretty decent. I believe this was read was wrong by the RB partially bc Quinney getting turned inside and making it appear as if the edge is set. The RB probably should’ve stayed outside but i understand what he sees.

QB Counter:

This 2 consecutive week where James ran away from his lead blocker. Play is designed and actually executed to hit in the C gap but Graham decides to take his talents to the A (Lol pun intended)

Passing Game:

The Switch routes/concept was a staple of the TO and very vs. UNC. We missed one but scored TDs off of this route combo

Verticals (switch)

Unlike the Switch, Verticals has been very unkind to us. It either has been INT or a missed wide open WR simply bc we are locked onto the WR up the hash. This killed the momentum we were picking up. This should’ve been thrown to the Rb on the drag or TE on the other hash

Something i thought we would see more of to get our QBs in a rhythm with our TEs. Graham fire this in there vs. man coverage for a 1st down

Out routes by the inside receivers and corners by the WR. Nice catch & run Sanders. Nice read by James

This is why James shouldve been our QB from day 1!!

NFL level poise and arm strength. Carter has to make this play

Controversy?

Some say he should’ve fought for the 1st down and others believe he was getting no closer than 2-3yds the sticks with a spy and 2 other defenders in pursuit. If he had another half second in the pocket he may have found that WIDE OPEN TE on the corner route

All in all, solid game and a lot to build on. Here is to hoping we get all 11 on the same page and beat Duke. I hope this helps

We're definitely improving which is all we can ask. It took a little more time than it should have to figure out that Tobias was not an every down QB, but he has that sauce that makes you want to give him a chance. Now I want to see James get a little cleaner with his reading of the game and hopefully no more injuries to the OL. We are just about getting to the point that you could imagine us winning a football game again.

I thought you did a good job, but @GTCrew could've done it better.
Best I could do at this point was notice UNC was picking on 38 and they were passing well against our zone but when we played man and pressed them on the line they didnt seem as successful.

And I could be wrong about both of those.

Thanks, IBee.

This confirms my impression there was significant improvement in this game over the previous ones. Hopefully it'll continue to improve and shock someone. Would be nice to shock Duke to start with.

@ibeeballin good stuff.

What software do you use to copy the broadcast?

Our OL played tremendously better but they still have a LONG ways to go. Definitely fewer missed assignments but still too many. I love seeing them progress. I wish broadcasts would show end zone views the entire game.

Their hand and foot placements this game were better across the board and more consistent. When you watch the zone plays, each player should be taking about the same step as the next guy. The RB should also be taking the same lateral step.

For outside zones, the step is a 45 degree step about 18-24 inches with the outside foot. Inside zone, I’d say somewhere between 45 and 60. There is a meta game for double teams on zone plays to take care of extenuating circumstances.

These steps and double teams were MUCH better this game but still not to the standard of excellence that I expect out of GT OL. We should and will have a high-functioning, high-SAT type OL.

The standard of excellence is knowing exactly what steps to take when presented with a pre-snap read without relying on your teammates, communicating pre snap reads, adjusting to post snap read information and taking the steps, then finishing the block.

This means being able to read a defense correctly. We would often have mini conversations on the line to determine pass pro/run fits. If everyone knows the rules, you can get on the same page more quickly. Those things seem improved as well.

I seems like QBs are still drinking from a fire hose.

Anyways, I get what Pnude is doing. I think he holds a lot of faith in his players and their skills to complete the tasks. That’s why we see the play calling we do.

I’m not happy with the W/L but I see the improvement and would strongly agree that the developmental aspect of the program is in good hands (our recruits will get better as players).

Thanks IBee. There were some well designed plays in that group.

On the run by James to try for 1st down, it looks like he could have cut back to his right to see if more of a gap would open up for those lst two yards but we don't know why he decided not to try that.

Uhhhh, this is about the offense.

Yeah, I know. Football is a complimentary endeavor. If UNC hadn't thrown away seven or eight plays, we wouldn't have been on the field as much as we were. As it was, what did we have, 53 snaps? And some of those were in garbage time.

I only learned CPJs offense while in China re-watching film a 1000 times. The passing stuff with coverage types is a little beyond me.
