Offensive cut ups vs. UNC

I only learned CPJs offense while in China re-watching film a 1000 times. The passing stuff with coverage types is a little beyond me.
There's a really good primer on one of the other sites on Tampa 2 cover shells that should pick up most of the defensive formations nowadays. This is the wikipedia page. There's another one that I remember that's a whole lot better...

Love your optimism. However, UNC is crap. Not a good barometer. If UNC's qb and WR's had been in sync they would have hung 60 points on us.

That’s what press coverage does cause low percentage throws. You will have to be extremely accurate to get 60

You just need to watch it about 990 more times and you'll be all set.

This 2 consecutive week where James ran away from his lead blocker.

Play is designed and actually executed to hit in the C gap but Graham decides to take his talents to the A (Lol pun intended)

That would have gone for big yardage. The running back looks seriously dejected that JG didn't follow him.

Yeah, I know. Football is a complimentary endeavor. If UNC hadn't thrown away seven or eight plays, we wouldn't have been on the field as much as we were. As it was, what did we have, 53 snaps? And some of those were in garbage time.
It's so funny people just like to cherry pick certain things about one side and discount others. Yeah they had a couple drops but not 7 or 8. We overthrew another wide open TD that would've put us up 7-0. Dropped a pass across the middle for about 20+ yards that hit Carter in the hands. So we threw away our fair share too. UNC also made a few thread the needle passes and excellent catches in good coverage that not everybody makes either.

Uhhhh, this is about the offense.
Yeah, true. All I could tell there was Graham is who he hoped I would be armwise. He runs like a guy who doesnt want to get hurt not like a triple QB. He made some obvious rookie mistakes like the oob play there. He had to know at the los there was two legit options given it was third down and the score at the time. Try a pass or run through those guys for a first down.

@ibeeballin good stuff.

What software do you use to copy the broadcast?

Our OL played tremendously better but they still have a LONG ways to go. Definitely fewer missed assignments but still too many. I love seeing them progress. I wish broadcasts would show end zone views the entire game.

Their hand and foot placements this game were better across the board and more consistent. When you watch the zone plays, each player should be taking about the same step as the next guy. The RB should also be taking the same lateral step.

For outside zones, the step is a 45 degree step about 18-24 inches with the outside foot. Inside zone, I’d say somewhere between 45 and 60. There is a meta game for double teams on zone plays to take care of extenuating circumstances.

These steps and double teams were MUCH better this game but still not to the standard of excellence that I expect out of GT OL. We should and will have a high-functioning, high-SAT type OL.

The standard of excellence is knowing exactly what steps to take when presented with a pre-snap read without relying on your teammates, communicating pre snap reads, adjusting to post snap read information and taking the steps, then finishing the block.

This means being able to read a defense correctly. We would often have mini conversations on the line to determine pass pro/run fits. If everyone knows the rules, you can get on the same page more quickly. Those things seem improved as well.

I seems like QBs are still drinking from a fire hose.

Anyways, I get what Pnude is doing. I think he holds a lot of faith in his players and their skills to complete the tasks. That’s why we see the play calling we do.

I’m not happy with the W/L but I see the improvement and would strongly agree that the developmental aspect of the program is in good hands (our recruits will get better as players).

Screen record the games off YT and insert them in the giphy app

It was a 10 point game, 2nd quarter winding down and our D had been playing well up to that point. I'm ok with that right there. If our D holds, we go in the locker room down 10 and getting the ball after half.

Looks to me like Graham is supposed to go to the right? Watch the pulling LG and LT. (Also IBB refers to it as a counter.) The LT may have overran his guy a tad and this made JG jump upfield rather than going through the intended hole. Tough to tell based on the camera angle if the hole was there and the LT had the defender sealed or not.

Correct. The LT would’ve sealed him if Graham continued running right. The LB would’ve flowed directly into him

Thanks so much for doing that. I'm surprised to see our QBs still missing option reads - that should be one of the strengths of our team.

That being said, if we can get the blocking and timing down on read and speed option plays, we should be really dangerous. Mason runs through arm tackles extremely well, and Graham can outrun LBs that try to freeze and play both options. That's the kind of thing that could really take some pressure off our passing game and even open up some play action stuff down the field.

I'm looking forward to continued improvement this week against Duke!

You're still a little bitch, aren't you?

Yes. And IF your mom had said no to your dad we wouldn't have to put up with your whining all the time. Both big ifs.

True -the TD to go up 31-15 was one of them. They also picked up a couple of third downs where we brought good pressure, had good coverage, but the passes were completed. Once when Curry came with quick pressure -frustrating but it happens.

I knew there was a reason I hang out here. Thanks guys - never too old to learn.
