Me the following question about Georgia Tech football:

"what are your realistic expectations for Tech every year?"

I said not losing to Duke, UNC, Wake Forest, and Nc State for starters. We own them, traditionally. We should always be competitive against uga, even when we lose. We should be able to get wins out of Clemson, VT, Miami, and Virginia 50 % of the time we play them.

How do you feel about my assessment? I've only been in this world for 37 years so you vets know more history than I do about GT football. However, I think I know my own team pretty well. What say you? Did I tell him correctly or did I lead him astray? I appreciate your candor.

I would mostly agree. I think going forward the only two teams we should apply the 50% bit to are Clemson and Miami. Virginia Tech may never get back to what they had with Beamer and Virginia hasn't demonstrated enough since the end of the 90's that they can stay around the top 25, even when they have a string of "good" recruiting classses, as we saw when Al Groh was still in charge in the early aughts. I don't know what percentage I should realistically expect against Georgia, but I agree with you that we should not be getting smacked by them as badly as we have, as often as we have. Generally I am disappointed with anything less than 8 wins in a year.

My standard answer anytime someone asks me how I think GT will be next year: we'll best someone we shouldn't, we'll lose to someone we shouldn't, and we'll go to a bowl game. Been pretty on the money for a decade or three.

I expect all the following every season
1) beat all the coastal teams
2) beat Clemson
3) beat UGAg.
4) beat our other OOC opponents
5) win the game played the week after the UGAg game
6) win 2 more games after that.

Well, we have had about 50 years of being a 6-6 team that bubbles up to a 9, 10 or even 11 win team every once in a while and down to a 2, 3 or 4 win team with about the same frequency, to quote Dave Braine.

We should compete for a playoff spot once every decade or so with the right QB.

We should expect to place top 3 in the Coastal Division

We should expect to win the ACC about 3 times a decade

We should beat UGA 1/3 of the time.

We should make Bowl games every year.

Build a program with the goal of beating ugag 51% of the time and all the ACC Coastal And Bowl nonsense will take care of itself.

Ain’t brain surgery.

I agree that’s the goal but is that the minimum we should accept?

Pretty good look, i think winning 40 percent of the time against UGAG is what i would hope for

We are gonna be more hyped but the same results as CPJ(respect)

I’m hoping for a QB like the Tarheels have and some dominant DT’s to make a run

Until then ... onward...................

>8.0 regular season wins on average, bowl every year. That accounts for the occasional clunker 6-6 year along with a 10/11 win season here and there. Sitting in Atlanta, we should be in the discussion for winning the division every single year.
