Square Peg Round Hole

What, you don’t believe that Clemson carries 72 or so OL/DL players on their roster of 85 scholarship players?

You went to Tech?

You don’t even know how to divide by 10?

Reading comprehension was once the problem with GT academics. Now it is also simple division?

I mean we missed a field goal and fumbled on the 1 yd line and lost by 10.

Could’ve easily went to overtime with a top coastal team WITH THIS ROSTER... CGC is over-achieving at this point in the season. We are consistently improving
Why the hell would anyone downvote this post?

You said Clemson has signed an average of 18 OL/DL per year. That would be 72 over 4 years, no? Even if we assumed mass attrition and cut that number down by 1/3, that would be 48 OL/DL on the roster. You think that number is accurate?

Can you point to the individual classes in which Clemson signed at least 18 linemen? If that's the average over a decade, it shouldn't be that hard.

Someone on TOS already did some research on this when he made the claim there a few days ago. Yes, Clemson has been recruiting more OL and DL than we have over the past 10 years. No, the difference is not anywhere close to 18 - 10. And the 18 number is total BS.

I only deal in base 8, like your mom.

Which is why it's mystifying that he's still trotting that number out there like it's accurate.

He admits reading comprehension has been a problem for some, maybe he was looking in a mirror while typing that.

Hard to judge the OC with what we have. Dropped passes, fumbled TD, lack of pass blocking.
No. There is no sign of improvement after, what, 15 weeks of practice and eight games? Not saying we should be winning more games, but we could at least resemble a P5 squad. There is no reason to be optimistic about any of the next four games. And next year may be more of the same.

I don't know if you were at the game. I was...just got home a while ago.
The size differential between our lines and Pitt was huge. They spent most of their time in our backfield and if I was going to pick one thing to criticize our offense game plan about, it's that we have to roll out Graham and give him a run pass option on the edge. They sent 5 and 6 all day long and he looked like he is...a freshman QB with a porous offensive line.
Yes, I was there and saw the same thing. We were overmatched - no doubt. But our last OC pretty consistently found ways to score despite being overmatched, as did Friedgen. I'm not suggesting we fire anybody (that's ridiculous), but I am questioning whether or not we have an OC who can outcoach the opposition. We all want GT to be nationally relevant again, and I'm of the mindset that it's gonna take some superior coaching. I've seen flashes of that on defense. I think Collins's culture is a big contributor. But I'm still frustrated with the offense.

On the bright side, there's every chance you'll be mangled and killed in some horrific accident by then, and we'll be enduring it without the high whine of your constant pussy-aching.

Friedgen had Joe Hamilton. He was also not saddled with a roster that was severely imbalanced like this one.

the last OC assembled the current roster specifically to run an offense that no one but service academies run. Paul figured out that it doesn’t take an all star to dive at knees (but when you do have one it’s even better) to get fast runners into the open. You just need people who go where they are supposed to and are willing to do it. And with that, Paul was a good enough play caller to disguise the fact that we have a severe talent deficit on the lines.

the biggest problem is that I think Paul bought into his own play calling genius so much that recruiting was an afterthought.

Agree with everything here. CPJ was as good a playcaller as there is, his recruiting was subpar. We need someone who can improve recruiting AND still outcoach opponents. Do you think your bolded statement is true for the current offensive staff? The defense did it last night. It's pretty obvious we've upgraded on that side of the ball.

Could happen. Not likely, but maybe.

Time will tell on Patenaude. If we don't see significant improvement next year, I'm confident CGC will make a change. Lots of coaches cast out as morons one year look like geniuses the next (and vice versa), and it's pretty much never because they learned/forgot that much about football in one off-season.

How many lineman have we lost to injuries in that time? We're starting walk-ons and you expect there to be some great progression to our play?

Not when we can't even field a full OL.
