Stadium A/V still sucks

I had someone from my family there who's a Michigan grad. I pointed out how we were making little noise on 3rd downs anymore no matter how hard the A/V tried... but when the band played F-tuning on 1st or 2nd down we got noisy. He asked why we changed it and I had no answer.

The whole production was a wreck Saturday.

- There were audio issues (line noise) for a significant part of the game.
- Pretty sure that was a substitute PA announcer.
- On one early Money Down we played the music all the way through Pitt’s actual play, like we couldn’t find the pause button.
- Starting a Yellow Jackets chat when there are 200 people left in the stadium is dumb.
- They kept showing a blank “countdown to kickoff”’graphic on the Jumbotron during breaks.
- The ribbon boards quit for a bit.

I’m irritated that they don’t introduce Buzz anymore. Our entrance needs some work - Collins high-fiving some kids in the tunnel doesn’t fire me up. The missing “how bout them dwags” is silly. I guess we have a DJ in the stands, but there have been a lot of really awkward song transitions this year.

All this self-inflicted stuff is ridiculous. You’d think we could figure it all out and then remember what we learned from year to year, but no.

I've said it here and on other sites. Our A/V production on game days has gotten embarrassing. It's sloppy and makes us look like a 3rd rate program. The volume goes up and down numerous times during an announcement or song. Sometimes you can't hear, sometimes it sounds like the speakers are gonna blow again. I know a lot about sound reinforcement and it's extremely apparent that whoever is running our main FOH console on gamedays does not. It's embarrassing that as a technological institute that we cant even handle simple audio.

All of this. No excitement, students don't show up, low attendance all the way around, BDS feels like a morgue. F-tuning on 3rd down...duh. Change is good but change for the sake of change has been horrible. Where is that huge block of students in gold that used to be next to the band? What happened to the Swarm? Just a little blob of blue and gray there now that's mostly empty by the end of the third. Pre-game is horrible and almost non-existent. No energy.

This is my twenty-third year of Tech games and I have never seen everything about the gameday experience be so utterly bad. It is embarrassing how empty and low energy everything is. I'm definitely all for money down now because that seems to be the only flicker we have.

You might say "it's always been this way", or "you only notice it because you're sober now" but no. The fanbase has changed and contracted. Some of that is football, some isn't. The self-inflicted cuts like lackluster and completely half-ass game day production is the hardest to take. Almost makes me sympathize with Collins... he can't carry the juice on his own.

The biggest problem is it seems that the games aren’t scripted in terms of AV stuff. Pregame needs to be scripted to the second from the time that the team enters on YJA. From that moment forward, the PA needs to be blasting music that can be heard all over campus to get people to the stadium.

The countdown to kickoff should be all music and very little talk unless it’s calling attention to a Tech tradition. Voice ads have to go and ads should be limited to ribbons and the side panels. Everything else needs to be scripted hype stuff.

then they need a plan for what to do during tv timeouts and other gaps in play. And voice commercials is not the answer.

There was a 2nd down play where the Pitt player didn't quite make the 1st down marker, and it was third down, but the PA said, "pickup of 3 yards, and a first down", except, nope. I was like WTF?

Yep. He had several moments like that. His pronunciation of the Greek letters at halftime was comical; I wish someone had a recording.

How do we actually let them know within a medium that will be read and acted upon?
The last season or two, I got a gameday experience survey after home games, and I almost always talked about this stuff at length. Haven’t been getting anything like that this year, though.

Last season I got “Sorry we missed you on The Flats” following games I wasn’t able to attend due to conflicts.

I haven’t received a single one this season.

It is truly said and I do not know if it’s evidence that they do not care, are incompetent, or both.

I didn't even notice Buzz was there until 3rd quarter Budweiser.
I have noticed a big drop-off in the appearance of Buzz this year. I thought Buzz used to make random appearances in different sections of the stands, help the cheerleaders throw out T-shirts, and be down on the sideline near the students cheering and acting foolish all game. I haven't noticed that much at all this year.

Maybe because you should have been at the game instead of camping with your son. What kind of fan puts his family over the team?

Narduzzi was not happy with our PA system either. He should be used to our technical incompetence.
"The music, they just kept playing," Narduzzi said. "They claimed that [Georgia Tech] pressed the button, and the button didn't work. OK." Narduzzi said the Yellow Jackets were issued a warning. "There should be no warning. It should be called immediately."
