Rate Geoff Collins First Season

So basically Collins closed the deal soneone else put together; but Gailey was the closer; and hopefully Collins is a closer.

That is a pretty convincing argument that CGC should not get credit for the 2007 class.

Man, you're right. Sounds like Collins isn't even a very good recruiter at all. Really dumb move by Saban to bring him in for the 2008 class that was one of the best in NCAA history.

He gets a D in coaching this group. If 2-8 is better than a D you are one easy grader. 3-9 gets him a D+. 2-10 and he gets an F. But, this is his grade coaching CPJ’s recruits. The first grades that will tell us how he is going to do with his players will be years 3-5.

I hope we get better. My concern is with our overall football culture. The stadium crowds get smaller. The student support is almost non-existent. We seem confused as to whether we should continue Georgia Tech traditions or embrace an urban school image. There seems to be more apathy than unrest. I know he wants to change us through better recruiting. But, he has quite a job to do selling kids on our current culture.

The recruits seem to understand our situation much better than most fans.

The students will support a winner that plays an exciting brand of football. That is the end game here, obviously.

CGC wants to build a culture that appeals to 18-23 y/o kids. There is room in that culture for most traditions, but the fans need to get over themselves and accept a little bit of change.

GT football has been stale for years. I get that we went to two orange bowls, but truth is that didn’t move the needle for the kids we’re trying to recruit. The roster ain’t the only thing that needs a significant transformation.

I mean, nothing from our OC has shown he knows what the hell he is doing. did anyone happen to catch the Ole Miss vs. LSU game last night? Why we haven't run an offense like Ole Miss did last night is beyond me.... Lots of read option plays, only threw the ball 10 times through 3 quarters and put up 23 points on LSU...
Not scoring in two games this year needs to be a fireable offense. If CGC actually has the nuts to do it I'd give him a C for this year. Since we know he doesn't have the nuts to do it, D-

C for the season and a B+ for recruiting. We had less talent than everyone we played except Citadel. We have less DL and OL talent than any other P5 team. We do not have a QB for the future yet. None of that is Collins fault.
People don’t understand this

err, Alabama's 2008 class was ranked third behind Miami and Notre Dame. But hey, if he had multiple years, which it takes, it could have been a better class. Good news is that Gibbs won't be poached since it appears Bama hasn't spent multiple years recruiting him.

Gibbs committed to Tech and coach Geoff Collins in late May, before Alabama, Ohio State and Florida, among others, jumped in with offers as he stacked up 200-yard rushing games.

Collins did what Vegas and the pundits expected him to do. I suppose in that sense that he didn’t over or underachieve. Still a long way to go for the players and coaches alike. If you are having a hard time adapting to this year just wait until we win 4 next year.

I am optimistic about next year with the injured players returning, the experience gained, the freshman red shirted this year, the incoming freshman and the players who had to sit out this year. We are losing very little in terms of players who have contributed.
If we can find a QB, I believe we can win six and get in a bowl. Graham needs to increase his short range accuracy or we need to get a good transfer QB. Gleason could step in but that is asking a lot from a true freshman.

He looks to be a 7-8 win ceiling coach vs an 11-12 win ceiling head coach, but so did Dabo Swinney after a couple years.

He gets a D from me. Things saving him from F are player attitude, the injuries, and surprise departures on the line.

A = 8+ wins and/or UGA win
B= bowl game
C = competitive in all games
D = 2-5 wins
F= 0 or 1 win

Do you think just maybe this scale is completely unreasonable given the circumstances ?

What was this board like in 2015 when we got only 3 wins.. it’s not like mediocrity, low talent along the lines, and mass injuries is something completely new and out of left field for tech in the last 5 years. Some of y’all act like we plummeted from championship competitors from last year. And that really happened in 2015 comparably..

This situation and what CGC is doing is a total burn everything to the ground and start over from scratch as it should be

In 2 years when we are winning I wish we could revisit some of these comments. So our previous coach who ran a unique system so he didn’t have to bother with recruiting unexpectedly quits a few months before signing day and y’all are mad at the guy who had to take over. That doesn’t make sense to me but ok. We don’t have a real QB on the team thanks to the previous coach and we are using Vandy backups as starters, and our only all ACC caliber player died before the season. Yet, let’s blame the new guy. Guess what? In year 8 a tried and true potential hall of famer won 3 games at GT and barring a miracle play he would have only won 2 and gone winless in the ACC. Yet, y’all are freaking out about this season?

All that matters is recruiting and Collins is doing just fine.
