In a foot race he might be slower then Graham but does he have better lateral movements is what interest me. Graham is Nathan Cottrell playing QB. He’s a straight down hill guy IMO. If he could make someone miss or break tackles Graham would be a big threat as a runner.
The story of our season. A speedy slot receiver playing quarterback behind a bad line with inconsistent receivers.

That only became the story after we settled on the slot receiver and stopped holding tryouts on the field. And:
  • timeouts that cancel scores
  • boneheaded penalties of the variety that can be blamed on coaches

It's like using bananas rather than apples in a pie. Yes, technically, both are fruit, but one just doesn't work. Unfortunately, all we have are bananas right now.

NCSU is the game Yates should see the most action. No reason to subject him to a dialed-in Bud Foster defense at his stage of development, just for chuckles.

I expect Graham will start, and I expect him to bounce back and play better, but I also think his leash is shorter now that Yates has gotten a little game experience. If Graham comes out and plays about like he did at UVA, then he'll stay in. But this is NC State so if he plays that well we very well could build a lead and afford for him to come out a series or two to let Yates play, or even finish the game out.

I don't think I agree on Graham. He's juked some people this year on scrambles. He's also had some times where he could have and didn't. I think his issues are vision-related, more than anything to do with his athletic ability. It just doesn't look like the game has slowed down for him yet. I definitely wouldn't throw in the towel on him being a prolific runner yet. He's still a freshman, remember?

Unless they’re itching for a case of CTE why would a transfer QB come risk life and limb behind that line?
The offense line will not be a finished product next year but it should be much better. We will have this years players with an additional year of coaching and weight training. We will have several injured players returning. We will have the players that were red shirted this year. Finally we will have the 2020 recruits that we choose not to red shirt. In addition we may add more talent through the transfer portal. By 2022. I expect we will have a dominant offensive line.

Vision might play a role, I wouldn’t dismiss that but is that something that vastly changes or is it like shooting free throws? I just wish I saw more Taquon Marshall in his running game then Cottrell from a making people miss standpoint and Oliver from breaking tackles and making it difficult for the defense to get him down. He is young and certainly has a lot of potential there’s no debating that.

I’m going to be real...if they couldn’t crack the ATL this season on the OL, then they likely are not cut out for this at the college level. These guys need to get to work on their personal development for sure.

I think Yates did well for his first time out. He broke some tackles in scrambles when Graham couldn't get around the DE when he tried to scramble. Need to see both of them against NCS and see if one or the other distinguishes themselves.

These players were held out because they needed to develop for the future. The decisions this year are focused on the future instead of short term gains this season.
