There are two true freshman OL: Will Scissum and Scotty Fulgham. Both are walk-ons.

Considering how little Yates played before Saturday, I thought he looked like a natural playmaker even though he got no help from his OL or the receivers. To me, he was clearly the best player on the field (and yes I know VT had a lot backups playing). Yates has the same physical stature and attributes as Joe Hamilton, Russell Wilson and Kyler Murray. However, for Yates to play QB anything like those guys he needs help from his teammates and proper coaching. I think Yates has more potential and upside than Graham.

Graham’s inconsistency concerns me. It’s like he loses focus easily from week to week. I’d be more than happy though if Graham proved me wrong.

Graham is not the future QB of GT football in the CGC era period....

Hard to say that about a highly athletic quarterback thrown in as a freshman before he is ready.

The future qb in future years may be Graham. May be Yates. May be Gleason. May be someone we don't have on campus yet.

That is really up to the player, and how well they mature.

Way too early to say that. He has impressive arm talent and a natural ability to hit the deep throws- he's done it every time I've seen him play going back to the spring game...well, except last week. That's usually the limiting factor for a QB- missing on the deep throws. I'm honestly surprised that he wasn't recruited more as a QB, you'd think that despite his rawness somebody would take a chance that they could develop him, like recruiting a world class sprinter to become a WR.

His problem is consistency with short throws and decision making. It can take a while to learn, and this is his first year in a "normal" system. His redshirt year was spent learning things that are now mostly irrelevant. Patenaude's kitchen sink offense is probably not the easiest to learn either.

But yeah, he needs to start putting it together sooner than later. Else, I think Yates will supplant him.

Does anybody know what the status is for Lucas Johnson as a potential backup in case of injury? He got hurt on his last play at QB and appears to be the #3 QB at this point, if he's even available at all. I'm not sure if Yates would be seen as the best choice in crunch time if the game is close tomorrow.

Yates had a quick release. He also made a great throw on the one he had to sidearm past a DL

Yates was the only minor bright spot on Saturday. Hope he get pt on Thursday.
Graham most likely will start and should continue to play tonight as long as we're moving the ball. I see no reason to force JY into the game, as that to me is getting back to the QB carousel we had earlier in the year. If Graham struggles or if we are up (or way down :eekfacepalm:) late, then I'm all for JY getting some reps. I felt like he did some good things late against VT. His bad sacks when he could have thrown the ball away are my biggest negative, but that's something you learn by doing.
