Georgia Tech has piss poor Coaching....I went to the game, but couldn't bring myself to stay. We got our first 1st-down at about the 10:30 mark in the 2nd quarter, at which time we were already down 21-0. On the play following the first down, Mason ran for nine yards, making it second-and-one. Two plays later, we punted on fourth-and-18. I've got season tickets, so I'll go to every game to support the team (including the coaches). However, I won't stay to see a massacre if I see that we're showing no signs of improvement.

I know some Tech fans want to blame current performance on Coach Paul Johnson, because he allegedly couldn't recruit "real" football players for his obsolete offense. However, we fielded a competitive football team in all of Coach Johnson's years except one (when we were plagued by an incredible number of injuries). In fact, we typically finished first or second in the Coastal division during CPJ's tenure. I expected somewhat of a step backward when they announced Coach Collins' hiring, but I didn't expect this BIG of a step. Obviously, I'll give the coaching staff a chance to recruit "their kind" of players, but based on the results we've seen so far, it's hard to see how the program is moving forward in the right direction. Georgia Tech may be set back years after this Clown Show!
Obviously not the popular sentiment, but I agree with you 100%. Been to all of the home games and the one in Philly and I have witnessed more clock mismanagement, substitution errors and confusion and poor coaching decisions than I thought possible in one year. Never have understood why people viewed GC as a great coach. He hadn’t two decent seasons at Temple, following two exceptional seasons by his predecessor there. I hope I am wrong and they are right but this 7 year contract appears to be a big mistake to me.

I think the hope is much better recruiting and having strong coordinators will be the formula for success. He's also a young head coach, in only his 3rd season. I believe that the chances are good that he'll learn from some of the self inflicted errors that you mentioned and improve. But yeah, the jury is still out on his head coaching abilities.

The corollary is better recruiting means you do not have to rely on so many freshmen playing, and only play walkons when they outperform regular starters, and not throwing the above in cuz no choice.

It is amazing how much better coaching looks when players have the time to learn their jobs.

But but but... Juice Bro!

It's funny how last year we blamed the coach but this year we are blaming the players.

Even with a top 20 recruiting class coming in, and another great class in 2020, we will be very young, mostly freshmen, RS freshman, and sophomores for the next two to three seasons. The juice that we had some good players this year was, we now know, a smokescreen. Conversion of the roster is going to take longer than expected, if it even happens at all. 2-10 with a loss to a mediocre FCS program may put the fear of God into this year's recruits. The freshmen we were forced to rely upon this year will just be sophs next year, and probably no bigger than this year. The kids with size that pass the eye test in the next class will still only be true freshmen. I do think the necessary players will eventually be here. What concerns me is that our present roster, with all its athletic drawbacks, have made mistake after mistake, and shown erratic progress. At times we can't even line up correctly. CGC talks about working on fundamentals, and development of players, but I see little improvement after ten games. 45-0 is the biggest indicator of what reality is for our team right now. I think we have two coordinators that are in over their heads. They may be fine fellows and good recruiters, but they are not ready for prime time.

It's kind of too strong of a "what have you done for me lately" attitude though. Do you really think the team that lost to UVA by 5 on the road would still lose to Citadel? Or fail to score on offense against Temple? Saying 45-0 is the reality of the team is only true if you only go back 1 week. 33-28 also happened and shows more than a little improvement from 24-2. Is still true that the team is incredibly inconsistent and not saying there shouldn't have been more improvement than there has been.
