Rate Geoff Collins First Season

All you guys are dumbasses if the worst Tech game you ever saw isn’t the ACC championship game against Wake. What a miserable experience in Jacksonville that day

at least the 51-7 UGA game didn’t have a 6 hour drive home afterwards
That wasn’t a team effort of a loss, though. It belonged to one man - Patrick Nix.

öööö Patrick Nix.

My #1 take away from the VT game:

Georgia Tech was not ready to play: any team that comes out and has a delay of game on their very first play, at home, has a serious coaching problem. Completely and totally undisciplined.

IMHO we have entered into the Bill Lewis Era Part II......Watching his presser from sums up how I feel about Coach Collins. He looks like the guy who spent his life applying for his dream job and then when he got it was sorely unprepared for it - like a dog chasing a car who then catches one. What do you do now ?

There's zero excuse for a delay on the first snap. Zero. Telling us constantly how we are getting better in all phases of the game every day ? C'mon. You're in the 10th game and this was our worst performance - I say that over the Citadel game because we've had 6 more games and additional weeks of practice. If we have a process to improve, we aren't seeing any results. The other ACC games (Miami, Pitt, UVA) I think say more about how bad the ACC is this year. We are likely to get one win (barring NCST pulling a GT on Thursday night) in a historically bad conference.

I get that he has to try to stay positive and there's no doubt the injuries hurt (although I thought our strength and conditioning was supposed to make our players "elite"), but the last game was an embarrassment on a new level.

"I don't care about results, I care about Process." I'm a GT fan - I don't expect National Championships and yes, process matters. Recruit good people, get them educated, don't embarrass the school - but results do matter, and sorry Coach, your results are a disaster in year 1. The Program has been set back years IMHO.

The good news of signing an initially long contract is we will have a decent idea of what we got before can start arguing for an extension to secure recruiting.

I have watched a lot of football games at BDS at HGF. If I had to list the five worst performances by the Jackets I have seen in person at The Flats two of those games have been this year against The Citadel and Virginia Tech. These are not the most disappointing games, but simply the worst performances. I have been watching games as a kid, student, and alum for about sixty years. Two of the worst five in one season is not good. Some other candidates for the worst five I have seen in person include the win over Gardner-Webb, the loss to Furman, FSU 49-3 in ‘96, Va Tech in ‘07, 39-3 to Clemson in ‘03, 41-7 to UGA in ‘81, 41-3 to UNC in 93, and 42-7 to Tennessee in ‘76. After further thought the two losses this year are probably the two worst I have seen in person.

This does not mean Collins cannot or will not turn it around. But, the performances in year 1 have been pretty bad and at times epically awful.
I saw the 42-7 game in 76. Bitter cold wind. We looked like a HS team against Tennessee. Couldn't do anything right. Strangely enough I thought of that exact game after VPI last Saturday.
Then someone said that it was the first time since 1957 we got shut out at home. I could not remember at that point if we scored on Tennessee. After they said that, I gathered we did, but I did not remember us scoring - must've been late in game.

Hey at least we can win a game a month! Good baseline to start from.

Edit: August games don't count nerds.

Don't know how people are giving Collins an A for recruiting. Our current recruiting class is rated 5th in the ACC, an A should be at least in the top third of the conference. We have the top class in the second tier of the conference, that is a solid B for recruiting if everything stands as is. D- for the season so far. He can bring that up with an upset of NCState and a decent showing against UGA.

We can be a good program if Collins continues to recruit well and can surround himself with above average coordinators and assistants; much like the Dabo model, not like the Saban model.

Well, that win over NC State moved CGC and staff up from a D- to a C for the season; which when combined with the B for recruiting gives Collins a C+ overall so far from me.

The offense looked similar to what they were trying to do against UVA; and if that is the direction they are headed I am happy with it. Still some obvious size issues on both sides of the line of scrimmage; but unlike against VT it looked like everyone was playing hard. Should have been a good night for the recruiting effort.

I also disagree with the argument that we don't have QB on the roster. Graham looked good out there last night as did some other position players; but I think Graham deserves a shout out based on what has been said about our QB's this season.

CGC just matched PJ's win total in 2015, which really pisses the St PJ Fan club off, as they were hoping for a 2-win season so they could bitch all off-season.

This season didn't suck as much as 2015. We had huge expectations back then and shat the bed almost every game. Conversely, everyone expected us to blow chunks this year and we met those lofty goals. Onward & upward!

Graham looked like he had control of the offense last night. The two fumbles were bad (especially the second) but he otherwise looked pretty good. We desperately need size on both lines. There was a 3rd or 4th down play where NCST pushed our entire defense 4 yards from scrimmage.
