I'm really surprised at how many folks here aren't giving coach a pass this year?

I've almost stopped reading this board this year because it's become a pit of dispair and "I ****ed your mom" responses. Alas, I'm a ST addict so here I am. Anyway, so really, what were some people expecting? Everybody under the sun expected a painful experience this year because *news flash* the triple option is a total program commitment that you cant just undo instantly. Nobody likes to be 3-8 but we knew this was going to happen so I pretty much committed before the season to forgive whatever I saw on the field this year. My hope was to see progress even if it didnt add up to wins on Saturday but I expected some really ugly games too and wallah, we got the Citadel, Temple and VT.

So here's the progress I see. I see a team that continues to play hard and hasn't been lost by the coach. That's way more important than you think. I see a young QB have ups and downs but he has enough flashes that he's not a throw away starter this year and we can build with him. I see a defense that has always struggled under CPJ continue to struggle but at least looks like it can stop some people. It will probably be much better with a deeper talent. I see the best recruiting class since 2007 coming in. Let's hope we can hold the class together by signing day (fingers crossed).

Anyway, thrilled about the win last night and hope others can see the foundation at least, even if the walls aren't framed yet.

I haven’t got to watch much of GT this year in real time but I was seriously bummed and worried for the future.
They tried to give the game away last night but fought through to victory and a third win. Probably could have had another win or two this year but we frittered then away.
But I was very encouraged by what I saw last night. There were flashes of excellent play and huge effort. Plus the team is learning how to win instead of finding a way to lose.
That gutsy drive- the Mason Drive- was a program cruncher. Way to put the game away when it really really mattered.
It was an important win to set the tone.
We will probably get smashed by the mutant inbreds next week- so this was our last chance to grit out a win possibly.
My grade for Collins has improved after last night. Next year we will win games like this going away.
Let’s really set the tone in the off season by upsetting the drool school the Saturday after Thanksgiving!
Hey, it could happen!

Was always going to be a hard year. Vegas knew it. The AP knew it. Being diehard fans, we didn’t want to accept it....but deep down, surely we all knew it as well.

As was stated, we have some tape now on what this is supposed to look like. The foundation is curing. I look forward to watching the house being built, then having EPIC house parties in the mansion 2-3 years from now.

There are like 2 people who hate Collins.

Most everybody else (myself included) is just butthurt about losing, because losing ööööing sucks. GT isn't a losing program, and nobody here will be happy when we lose. So in terms of "getting a pass" it depends on what you mean by that. Am I pissed when we lose 45-0 and look pathetic in every phase of the game? Absolutely. Do I want the coach fired? Hell no. He's made a lot of positive changes, and it's obvious that we've got a lot of potential.

Complaining about bad football is what fans do. We've played plenty of bad football this year, so I would be more alarmed if people WEREN'T upset about a 4-8 season.

Agree 100%. I saw improvement throughout the year. OL blocking last night was not bad. Special teams did well. With all the injuries and walk-ons playing, I'm surprised that engineers have a hard time thinking logically about our play. Most of the negative posters are way too emotional. I wonder if most of them are Democrats.

Maybe 2 that hate him, but there are a lot more than that who seem to be actively trying to sow discontent to undermine him due to butthurt that we didn’t hire an option disciple.

Also, does wallah translate to voila?

Ya, this.

The amount of projection that gets thrown around here reaches women levels sometimes.

We have won the same number of games that we won in 2015, which was a season sandwiched between years with an Orange Bowl win and a Gator Bowl win. Fans on message boards get emotional and over-react to every play and each game as though a coach should be held responsible for the individual actions of some 20-yr old athletes. Sometimes little things like a bad bounce and an set of injuries turn the entire outcome of the season, but fans declare the coaches failures based on those events. Fortunately, most of the fans are more clear-headed about seeing progress and understanding what the limits of the coaching staff are. I tend to just ignore the posters who use the board to vent their play-by-play emotional swings.

Those are included in the 2 (maybe it's 4 or 5, but not many).

I think it's just butthurt about losing. Our offense was way better when we had an option coach, so I don't think it's strange at all for people to make comparisons when our current offense blows. Does that mean our coach sucks or we'll never be as good (or better) than we were? Of course not. But we aren't there yet.

... GT isn't a losing program, ...
Only 1 coach who coached more than one season in the entire history of GT football has never had a losing season at GT, so losing seasons happen.

Is the current coach taking corrective action to right the ship? Yes. But the cavalry will take a little time to get here.

I’ve stated before that I have enjoyed this season because how often do you get to see a program get started. I loved CPJ, but it was time. Watching Collins build this thing from the bottom has been fun. As he said in the press conference not one person in the organization uses injuries as an excuse. It’s ball down and next play. So, while guys like Glanton, Davis, etc. may not be on the roster when we win the ACC they’ll know they were part of it. And Collins knows it’s all about recruiting. So, one benefit of having our last game next Saturday will be this staff will be able to turn the page to recruiting and Collins, Key, and Choice are good at it. The network they are building and contacts with freshmen and sophomores in high school are gonna be huge for GT.

I think getting pushed around at the line is expected, but the mental mistakes (fair catch at the 2, delay of game out of the gate) is the stuff that seems to point to coaching.
Shotgun when in 3rd & 1, sloppy special teams. All things that are easy targets for a 3-8 team.
And a lack of identity on offense....seems we've looked better since we added some option back in this year.
I think Collins has delivered as expected. Maybe frustrating because the ingredients were there for a 5-7 year if we clean up vs the Citadel & uVa.

Well, now let's see. A match up of two almost equally struggling teams. Georgia Tech starts fast, jumps out to a 21-3 lead. Coaching adjustments are (or are not) made. Georgia Tech wins because the typically hapless Wolfpack can't make their two point conversion---and because Jordan Ponchez Mason and James Graham moved the chains just enough to keep our defense off the field. A couple of timely rocket tosses, game over.
