I'm really surprised at how many folks here aren't giving coach a pass this year?

The problem isn't that Collins doesn't have "his players".

The problem is that Collins is coming in after a recruiting staff that hasn't had a single non special teams player drafted in the past 3 years. Whereas CPJ inherited what may have been the most talented GT team in the 21st century.

Let's not embarrass everyone's intelligence by pretending that what Collins and CPJ had in terms of players available to them was remotely the same thing.
I'd also venture to say that transforming from a standard college offense to a 3O attack is a heck of a lot easier than transforming in the opposite direction, but I don't know a whole lot about anything.

Only if you have CGC recruits to play with.

Paul used to say fans don't ask for much -- they just expect you to win one game a week. He was wrong. Apparently Geoff figured out that Tech fans will accept one win a month so long as they get sunshine pumped up their ass in the interim.

We just had a three win season and y'all are like "Yep, just like we expected" except not a goddamn one of y'all predicted a three-win season in August.
I think I did.

Edit- I found the prediction thread from December and bumped it. I never gave a number, but I damned sure expressed my skepticism of immediate success based upon roster issues.

It was better than I thought it would be.
.

Last night was the worst I've ever seen BDS. Looked it up - 38k last night. Second-worst attendance at BDS in over 21 years. Apparently UVA last year was worse by a few hundred butts but my eyeball test says they are being very generous with last night's numbers.

I was worried a few minutes before kickoff because the stadium seemed empty but there were many late arrivals. The one mostly full student section was active and loud for this game.

Cause we suck. Not many people like watching bad football.
Doesn’t mean there’s not a good reason we suck, but we still suck.

when we get better, so will attendance.
Would like to believe that. But, it seems that our attendance always hovers around 42,000 regardless of how the team is doing. I think that is our default fan base, game in and game out. I do believe that Tech fans are basically lazy and can't motivate themselves to get off the couch, or donate money!

I have been a “sidewalk fan” for over 50 years. Remember the Dodd days when being a Tech fan was “in”. That all changed in the early to mid 70’s. Wonder what percentage of UGA fans are sidewalk fans compared to GT? If the attendance is ever going to rise and be sustained, you must develop more sidewalk fans. Winning helps but I remember 1990 coming off of the upset of UVA in Charlottesville, playing the next week before a less than capacity crowd vs. VPI. All my opinion of course but something to think about.

Here's what I see:

...
A young Kenny Cooper ran onto the field, but then ran off, so there were 10 men on the field -> visible confusion -> no snap. CPJ gets in his face about it, but then cools down quickly because now, ....
When a young kid fields a punt inside our 10, the anti CGC crowd screams "Bad coaching!!"

Clearly then, above when a young kid runs off the field when he shouldn't have - "Bad coaching!!" by PJ

CPJ was not a great game manager. We used timeouts on the dumbass offside play and then had to run the ball in the 2 min offense because we had no plan other than 4 snaps of Hail Mary.

edit - not to mention there was no option of a hunh because of the way plays were sent in. Being behind by a TD with 3 minutes left was almost certain stupidity.

collins has made some boneheaded calls, but he’s a young HC and has a very young team with a qb getting his first significant PT. There are going to be errors.
Don't forget the great PJ Death March when down 21 pts in the 4th qtr to Duke....or the 2-minute offense which consisted of taking 25 seconds to run-in every play, usually resulting in a magical QB Keeper....or having the lead late in the 4th and bizarrely taking the snap with 19 seconds left on the play clock rather than running it down to 2, like CGC did last night....

Yeah, CPJ's game mgmt skills are definitely overrated.

I for one will welcome the CGC doubters back with open arms in 2-3 seasons when we’ve fully transformed and are setting the ACC on fire. Let’s attempt to not derail this thing before we give CGC time to work his process. WINNING WILL UNITE US. Before then, I suppose the ‘CGC juice drinking ride-or-die crowd’ and the ‘CPJ muh-optionists’ can simply agree to disagree.

Don't know if anyone else noticed the "juice crew" of players on our sideline last night. They were fired up and working to keep the fans excited. Little things like that are encouraging to see and probably look good to recruits as well. I think the culture changes that CGC implements will pay off over time; way too early to know for sure.

We are in the ACC Coastal so it won't take much to get to break even at least, then e go from there.

Only if you don’t like the coach, or in a lot of cases, read on the Internet that you shouldn’t like the coach.

Lots of people spend more time posting than watching games, pressers, etc and developing their own thoughts on the team, coaches, and players than I would expect.

Our fans are smarter off the field. That’s for sure.

Totally agree with the OP...I’ve been pretty surprised by the anti-CGC sentiment on here this season. No coach in the country could have gotten us to bowl eligibility. Hell, the announcers last night were saying “look how small the Georgia Tech defensive front is.”

You’d think any idiot would be able to recognize this. Yet, even at Georgia Tech of all places, we still have our fair share of morons.

I guess I am most disappointed in the defense. The offense I get, rebuilding and all. The D wasn't supposed to be as bad as it is. The secondary, the strength of the D, has underachieved. I know we are small and young on the D line, but still.
