I'm really surprised at how many folks here aren't giving coach a pass this year?

I guess I am most disappointed in the defense. The offense I get, rebuilding and all. The D wasn't supposed to be as bad as it is. The secondary, the strength of the D, has underachieved. I know we are small and young on the D line, but still.
The D started very young and undersized. Then has been completely decimated by injuries. To name a few...

Brandon Adams (RIP)
Bruce Jordan-Swilling
Charlie Thomas (very limited)
Antwan Owens
Jahaziel Lee
Chico Bennett
Chris Martin
Demetrius Knight

Above I count 3 DTs, 2 DEs, and 3 LBs that otherwise would have played significant snaps. Seems like that may have had a negative impact on the performance of the D...not sure.

Naw man. Any good coaching staff should be able to overcome 8 injuries on defense and pitch shutouts in year 1.

You must have been at a different game last night. Thursday night or not.
I agree about attendance. I thought it was very poor.

I still just can't get over how few students come to games. They don't have to battle traffic, the tickets are free/cheap, etc.

But student support has been atrocious for years now.

North stands student section has seen solid this season. South stands section has been a total ghost town. It may be time to rethink that side.

I'm not sure what the OP means by "giving a pass."

I don't think there are any circumstances – injuries, scheme-changes, anything – that make losing at home to an FBS school 'understandable' or 'reasonable.' Similarly, when I think about the occasional atrocious teams that Grant field has hosted in the past 60 years (and sadly there's been some really bad teams on the Flats in those years) not a single one of them couldn't even score a FG in garbage time. That's not 'understandable' or 'reasonable.' If we'd lost all our games like the UVA loss, or heck like the UNC loss, or heck maybe even like the Clemson loss, I would be less upset about our record. Because it's not so much the record as how badly we've played achieving it, in those two games in particular.

All that said, I certainly am not convinced CGC is a bad coach, or has bad assistants or whatever, nor that he and his regime aren't right for Tech. It's not like I want the guy fired, for heaven's sake. I like him personally, I respect his media-savvy 'au courant' approach, and I think it's amazing and refreshing to see him refusing to accept GT's 'limitations' at face value. With his recruiting prowess, he has a chance to really level the playing field, athlete-wise, in a way we haven't seen at Tech in a few decades at least. He could turn into a truly great coach if he's able to build a real player-focused 'family' culture like Dabo has done.

So where does that leave me? Am I giving him a pass or not? You tell me. The Citadel and Va Tech games are just data points (really low ones) as I build an overall impression of the guy. There are some much better data points, too. Time will tell which are the outliers and which the trend. But I'm not afraid to express my frustration at how low some of the data points are.

The thing is, the secondary being the strength of the D is actually not a great situation. The best secondary in the world would look bad if the front seven is bad enough.

Apparently a lot of people had exams Friday. One of our players tweeted out that he had taken 2 exams Friday.

Bunch of posters who mainly make nothing but whiny bitch posts and don’t like our current staff.. posting cuck excuses explaining how they really are the complete opposite when faced with a posting that goes against their true feelings and is mega liked by the ST community.

fair weather bitches will stay being what they are I guess
Quite ironic coming from the guy that literally hoped the team would lose so the last coach would be fired. Some of y'all are railing against what you embodied for nearly a decade. Crazy times.

I loved CPJ but I hope CGC wins so much that CPJ will be completely forgotten. I don't cheer for a coach - I cheer for GT football.

.

Last night was the worst I've ever seen BDS. Looked it up - 38k last night. Second-worst attendance at BDS in over 21 years. Apparently UVA last year was worse by a few hundred butts but my eyeball test says they are being very generous with last night's numbers.
Fewer than when we thumped the Alcorn State Braves ??

Lame excuse in all seriousness. As a premed undergrad in an engineering program, I was flying out to chicago on a Sunday to present research at a national conference. I was in the lab at 5am on Saturday morning finishing up my presentation so I could make it to a 12pm kickoff. I got there in the middle of the second quarter but I got there. I think our students just don’t care enough

get rid of the south student section, turn it into premium seating (I love the beer garden idea).

if you see a coach that has no future anymore with helping GT football succeed, you want him fired. Luckily he stepped down. Stansbury wouldn’t have fired him after 6 wins. Thus my post.

My perspective is positive for GT football either way. I wished they would’ve lost. So that change would be more likely to happen. But you bet your ass I cheered for the win during the game

I thought it was pretty clear.
No, it didn't really match up to what I wrote. If I wrote that I was sitting outside at a cafe by myself sipping sangria in Spain, then that might warrant being called called a sissy.

But telling y'all that y'all are fools for accepting a three-win season just because you like the bullshit being fed to you by a used car salesman, then no, I don't think that makes me a sissy.

Paul used to say fans don't ask for much -- they just expect you to win one game a week. He was wrong. Apparently Geoff figured out that Tech fans will accept one win a month so long as they get sunshine pumped up their ass in the interim.

We just had a three win season and y'all are like "Yep, just like we expected" except not a goddamn one of y'all predicted a three-win season in August.
Just curious. Did Paul ever tell you why he stopped recruiting offensive linemen?
