Now that the season is over.....

What did you see that gives you optimism for the future? As for me, it appeared the team didn’t quit, limited amount of seniors, incoming recruiting class ( IF we can keep the big commitments). That’s pretty much it.
This.

Defense held their own in the first half before getting gassed from constant 3 and outs. The strength staffs work making the team overall bigger and stronger was noticeable compared to previous games vs uga.

Defense and special teams (besides field goal kicking) has taken a step up from the past coaching staff.

Still extremely undersized on O-line to get any push against a top 25 caliber team to run the ball with any consistency. Combine that with read errors that comes along with learning a new system and it’s horrible vs a top D-line

Our WRs look competent and made some quality catches throughout the season.

Gotta get a new PK. We cannot keep missing chip-shot FGs.

I’m not getting caught up in any preseason hype until I see some actual progress in the first three games next year, especially on offense. The offense needs to take huge steps to even be average.

That about sums it up for me.

For the first time in a long time our defense looks to be up and coming. Of course it had no where to go but up after the coaching carousel under CPJ. Our QB enrolls in January and our OLine has help coming from injured guys and recruits. Mason and Griffin are legit and our WR’s will get better due to experience and recruiting. But, between an OLine that was decimated due to injuries and lack of recruiting and not having a QB we looked alright. The upside is we’ll look a lot better next year with a real QB and another off season with Thacker. I hope Knight’s injury isn’t serious. He and Thomas are two playmaking LB’s for next year.

Soooooo many areas need improvement. I'm going to go with kicking. Kickoffs are a joke and place-kicking is actually detrimental - not just in missed points but in momentum lost after yet another miss.

Defensive fundamentals at all three levels is night and day. We just need Jimmies and Joes there.

Offense...well...Collins has game film that he can recruit to in many ways.

The entire very young starting lineup returns with experience, minus Glanton, with the return of Kenny Cooper and Jahaziel due to medical redshirts giving them a 2nd shot at a senior year. Then unlock Clayton on the DL and Ezzard out wide. Add Derrick Allen and a top 25 class with 6+ OL. Every single position should improve, especially if we get a DT committed and the new walkons work out at kicker.

So much more energy than under Johnson. That's probably the first thing he needed to get done. You can't recruit to a listless program.

Defense is better. Offense is garbage. OL should start at least 2 tFr next year. QB can't get a whole lot worse.

I wanted to agree with your post; but this line was delusional. Maybe you are focusing on the onside kicks and the touchdown pass by the punter earlier in the year. Kickoffs, punt returns, kick returns, and place kicking have all been a mess, punts have been up and down between good and mediocre.

Optimistic because I see motivated players and coaches understanding a program has to recruit for the entire roster.

The program could no longer afford a HC wanting to be a martyr for the sake of leading college football in one stat while the rest of the team was dragged down.

Also Brown, Griffin, Yondjouen, Huff, Lockhart, Yates, Knight, Norris, and more true freshmen.

A quarterback who is only a freshman who has taken his lumps and is ready in the off-season to show if he is ready to step forward and own the position. A beast who is only a Soph.

A buncha walk-on linemen who never backed down. Some quality corners with an F or So after their names. Returning safeties. Returning linebackers.

The Round Mound of Fourth Down.

A cavalry horn over the rise with a top 25 class galloping in, and another wave starting to gather for 2021.

The future is bright. It is only the (now) recent past that sucked. We'll still be too young to excel next year, but not too young to entertain.

This is a great take. We were ridiculously young this year and our 4 best linemen didn't play (died, transferred out or were injured.) If PJ were still HC here I think we'd be 4-8 or 5-7 and a lot less optimistic about the 2020 season.

Once CGC inks a top-25 class the juice will flow again. It would help to know we have a kicker and a big DT on the way. Another QB wouldn't hurt either.
