Collins

Once again why start this stupid thread right after a blowout loss?
Because a good portion of the ones who were posting in this thread are whiners who don't attend the games...but it's someone else's fault we have low attendance and low athletic spending, LOL.

Today’s sack was the first time we’ve sacked uga since 2015. The tea bagging in 2016 doesn’t count. That’s .... well that’s CPJ.

It's clear that Collins is going to be a dabo-esque coach, like it or not. Fortunately that is the way college ball is going, unfortunately it requires some really talented position coaches which of course every school is searching for. He obviously takes a favor to the defense given his background which is just fine and I think the defensive effort all year reflects that. With some recruiting, I think we will have a pretty formidable defensive unit. The issue is that they can't carry all the weight and will need an offense that can score some points and for that we need something like the opposite of brent venables in the OC position to excel. Is CDP the man? Who knows for sure, but I personally don't think he is.

I foresee 2 more years of solid recruiting with disappointing results on offense before Collins realizes DP isn't the guy. Until then, each year we win more games just because the talent level is increasing on offense and because our defense is a beast. After that, we pick up someone that knows how to use the much more talented offensive roster and I see 9-10 wins in year 5 or 6.

That's a long road, buckle up because you're gonna want to run the car into a brick wall several more times until we get there. Remember though, when we get to your mom's house, nobody remembers the trip being all that awful just how much fun we're gonna have from that point on.

Ii have a terrible feeling you don’t understand much about how football games are won and lost. Give Collins some P5 OL that can hold a damn block for more than half a second and DL That actually make it necessary for the opposing QB to wear a helmet and lets see if he’s a “used car salesman “.

Collins is going to make a lot of you look silly. You are the same type fans who wanted to run Ross out of town after year 1. GT could have done a lot worse than hiring Collins. He’s assembled a great staff who are probably already texting recruits and will be at a lot of houses tomorrow and schools on Monday. Yes, this year we lost a lot of games but we have a coach who knows the only way out is through a commitment to recruiting. If Johnson were still here we would have gotten smoked with Tobias at QB and we’d be looking at another 42nd ranked class to sign.

The one thing I know is that come 2021 we’ll actually be physically on par with Coastal teams. Thinking of a Johnson defense lining up against Hooker at VT makes me shudder.

Let's take a deep breath now that the season is over and honestly ask ourselves to assess the job CGC has done. I for one, thought we had more talent to win more than 3 games. Also, we rarely beat the spread and had some VERY BAD losses.

I'm trying to like CGC but have this gnawing feeling in the back of my mind that he is just an "empty suit", used car salesman.
Coach Geoff Collins is the next Bill Lewis IMHO

Wrong. At worst he is a Ron Zook who leaves us with a better roster than he inherited. That is at worst. I think with most of the staff he has put together we end up much better than that. I will be greatly disappointed if we aren't a bowl team challenging for the Coastal in 2021.

Why do people think Collins will be able to do at GT what he couldn’t do at Temple?

Why do you think Collins raves about Temple all the time? They’re his proof of concept. But all they prove to me is he’s good at acquiring talent but not good at winning.

Doing what exactly at Temple? What accomplishments?

What difference at this point do his Temple accomplishments make? He already has the Tech job. I care about his Tech accomplishments only. They are few at this point, but I’m still optimistic there will be many down the road.
Agree. Which is the basis of my question. And I genuinely don’t understand why he’s (Collins) brought them up as some sort shining beacon of things coming our way multiple times this year. He’s selling, I know. I just don’t understand what he’s selling with that.

He’s trying to give us a proof of concept or a sneak peek at the type of team he’s wanting to build. That said...I’ve heard enough about Temple myself, so sounds like we agree on that one.

Give us three recruiting classes in the 15-25 range, and we still won't be able to hang with uga running the same offense and defense they run because they are going to be in the 1-10 range recruiting. If you can't beat them with recruiting, you have to beat them with scheme. The last six times we beat uga, we had Ralph Friedgen or Paul Johnson calling the plays. Anybody have confidence in our OC out scheming uga or Collins out recruiting them?

Stop bringing up valid points and let me live my fantasy. Tech is going to pound the mutts in 2021 mark my words!

Navy is on tv rn

go watch em

Defense saw too many flashes of competency for Collins to just be a snake oil salesman. Obviously he’s doing some good things. With that said, he took a team that had a decent shot at a bowl and went 3-9. Not completely his fault, but he certainly didn’t smooth things over with any big high points. This season sucked more than it needed to, and it’s wishful thinking to claim that we really improved vs having some good and bad days. The big risk is that fan enthusiasm is completely in the tank outside of a small group of people that read twitter. I think it’s temporary, but we can’t afford it becoming permanent.

None of it really matters though. The real evaluation was always going to start with this upcoming signing day.
