Lmao you’re trying to tell me Michael Johnson, Vance walker, Derrick Morgan, Morgan Burnett, Andrew Gardner, and baybay were only NFL picks cuz of CPJs two magical years of development

get the hell outta here
Duh. If they were already draft picks, they would have gone pro before CPJ got there.

Season 1 - F

This was a bowl team talent wise. He is the king of excuses and I never heard him actually acknowledge that we lost a game this year, much less that we got out coached.

Depends on the company, and I’ve certainly built a career off of effort (not talent), but however you get them, results are all that matter to anyone outside the building. If I had that kind of performance in year 1. I’d damn sure have to show big improvement in year 2. If he’s not hitting a C+ (6 wins) next year then I’d at least mandate he fire the OC and make a big jump in year 3 or be fired...buyout be damned

I hope you are right but we should have won more than 3 games.
donsue, it's you that is misinformed. A minimum of research will tell ya that the core of our team, had in fact offers well above FCS level. This is a myth that started via CPJ haters, and has like a lot of myths, taken on a life of it's own.

What we are, is very young and very injured. We are also unbalanced position wise due to running the TO. CGC and staff get a C from me considering the circumstances. If we don't win 8 in 2021, we made a mistake imo. No less than the best coach we have had since Dodd, CBR said--give him time. Three full seasons, 2 recruiting classes, 3 Spring camps, and 3 Fall camps is "time" imo.

Collins is going to make a lot of you look silly. You are the same type fans who wanted to run Ross out of town after year 1. GT could have done a lot worse than hiring Collins. He’s assembled a great staff who are probably already texting recruits and will be at a lot of houses tomorrow and schools on Monday. Yes, this year we lost a lot of games but we have a coach who knows the only way out is through a commitment to recruiting. If Johnson were still here we would have gotten smoked with Tobias at QB and we’d be looking at another 42nd ranked class to sign.

The one thing I know is that come 2021 we’ll actually be physically on par with Coastal teams. Thinking of a Johnson defense lining up against Hooker at VT makes me shudder.
Many of PJs recruiting classes finished worse than 42nd.

Agree. Which is the basis of my question. And I genuinely don’t understand why he’s (Collins) brought them up as some sort shining beacon of things coming our way multiple times this year. He’s selling, I know. I just don’t understand what he’s selling with that.
Well, for one, we will have players drafted.

We were at a point of being devoid of pro talent. For a P5 team, in Atlanta, thats pretty remarkable.

This team was barely a bowl team last year with Big B and the O lineman who went to Texas (I completely blanked on his name). Without them, this team is exactly where it finished.

Those two players do not account for the difference between these two teams.

True. We also had to replace our starting QB, lost everyone with more than 7 receptions, lost our top 3 tacklers, our top 4 pass rushers (not that we really did that in 2019), we had freshman and walk-ons all over the field, we had a crapload of injuries, and we changed offensive systems entirely.

This was not a bowl team even if CPJ stayed.

I’m just tired of hearing that this is the biggest rebuild since Reconstruction. Quit making excuses. I was expecting a rough year but hoping to see progress with the offense, I didn’t see that.

Saw this on the UGA site - I didn't realize this -"take heart in the fact that it’s now been 7,308 days since Georgia Tech won a home game against Georgia."

I’m a CPJ guy, but he made his bed, realized it wasn’t comfortable and left. I mean, seriously, he chose to start Taquon at QB for 2 seasons because he stopped recruiting real QB’s after Vad/Thomas. That was a worse decision than anything Patenaude has done. We were going to suck this year no matter who our coach was. So the question I have, would you rather have finished 5-7 with a 45th ranked class or finish 3-9 with a 25th ranked class? Johnson was given 11 years. Collins deserves at least a chance. He will get it done because the players love him and he knows how to manipulate the system for the teams benefit. I loved Johnson but he spent more time whining than he did working the system. Collins is hungry whereas Johnson was content.

... and here is where sting talk turns poisonous

I can’t believe anyone on this board, big fans who follow CFB closely, thinks we had division 1, let alone power 5, talent.

We have been massively undersized and slow for a few years but a great offensive scheme masked it on that side of ball, while our defense was absolutely atrocious.

We didn’t sign a single lineman in CPJ’s last year. Think about that. Roster management was non-existent. I loved CPJ, thought he was a great fit for us, but I think some of you guys forget how ugly it was started to look then and for the future.

This staff didn’t forget how to run a football program overnight. We just suck. From the beginning of the year, the messaging was about effort and culture, finding leaders, and the future. This year was never about this year. How could it be?

edit to add: if you want a sting talk thread that discusses where we truly stand, objectively, without emotional BS, read this - https://stingtalk.com/board/threads/freshman-participation-and-roster-management.102679/page-4

The one correction is we didnt sign an offensive lineman that year but CPJ did get two to commit. After the hire we basically just made it plain they weren't what we were looking for so they went elsewhere. One could argue two is still too few.

Let's take a deep breath now that the season is over and honestly ask ourselves to assess the job CGC has done. I for one, thought we had more talent to win more than 3 games. Also, we rarely beat the spread and had some VERY BAD losses.

I'm trying to like CGC but have this gnawing feeling in the back of my mind that he is just an "empty suit", used car salesman.
Our QB did nothing to help us win yesterday. Everything goes thru him, and he needs to be better. He’s a Fr, so he gets a pass this year, but he needs to make significant improvements to lift this team from where it is.
