2020 Recruiting

CGC tossing out the old recruiting body types

I'm going to give some advice you are all going to reject, cuz it is counterintuitive but true.

With recruiting, look at the height of the tide but pay no attention to the individual waves.

Don't live or die by what individual recruits decide. Instead look at the overall picture.

With that said, a 2nd top quarterback in this class would be nice.

TRUTH.

Honestly, I'm only following it so closely as an educational exercise. It is important to Collins and therefore will be important to GT in the near future. I haven't need to do that in the recent past because honestly who cares or talks about finishing 45th. After a year or two, I expect I'll do like always, see where Tech finished overall and if they had any top recruits and then move on but I want to understand the process and the nuances of rankings and such.

I'll never care about finishing 1st or signing a single great player; that is a loser game when the most important thing is winning football games.

I don’t follow recruiting very closely anymore. I got a text from my espn commentator cousin who went to FSU and is close to program there about sims decommitment and his knowledge of the situation (coming to GT). Take that for what its worth.

Sorry. I have a question about numbers (again). I remember seeing it summarized elsewhere but can't find those breakdowns at the moment.

I'm going to assume Sims' commitment (???) means LJ is moving on. Is that a fair assumption?

Can someone provide a snap shot again of our scholly numbers? Outgoing numbers and incoming numbers? I thought we were in a position where we needed some heavy movement out to make room for the numbers we have in '20. I'm surprised we don't have that movement out in the portal. Is that still yet to come?
Less than a snapshot, but Suddes' bee tweet stands at 22 including an unknown. I feel certain the staff knows what steps to take regarding roster management if we sign all or most of those 22 plus any surprises between now and the first Wednesday in February. I am fairly certain CGC won't pocket any schollies after February, just in case.

Sims' decommitment thread has some glimpses to insider info on it. The scuttlebutt is that Norvell didn't think he would fit the offense, wanted a more pro style pocket passer QB.

Bad news for FSU is he was the only QB recruit so far this class, and maybe more importantly was one of the biggest recruiters for them

I was just on the phone with a guy who has FSU access and he told me this is exactly what happened. Said he’s disappointed because he liked Sims, but hopes we get him over Maryland.

The other info I got from him is pretty amusing. Apparently there is a nice subdivision in Florida that was started by some rich Tech folks. My friend lives there. The HOA declarations state, verbatim, “Any vehicle stickers, decals, house or yard signs, flags or other such materials which promote the University of Georgia (UGA) shall be considered as an annoyance and as a noxious or offensive activity.”

Man I feel like we are really getting lucky here. Right place, right time to pick up the pieces with Sims. He should be a really nice fit for us.

Of course, you have to make your luck by being prepared when the opportunity comes. If this goes down it's just an unspeakably huge win for GT and for Geoff.

Here’s a big part of recruiting and life in general - like attracts like. A guy like Sims can be a magnet for others. That’s what UGA has going right now. Once it’s built up all Collins will have to do is steer it the right direction. And, yes, I’d never turn away a 6’3” still growing dual threat stud. The pieces are being put into place. I just hope our fans (wishful I know) would just be patient thru next season. It still comes down to OLine and it’s going to be another year till that’s ready for prime time.

Looking at Sims video, he reminds of Josh Nesbitt. The throwing motion (can throw a long way with no stride), his body, his top speed (which is not high). I can see perhaps why Norvell thinks what he does, but he is taking a big and unnecessary risk IMO. Sims will be on a mission to prove him wrong.

Just to be fair, even many FSU fans think that is BS or not smart.
Norvell is a good coach, but the fact that they have to pay Taggert and Newell's Memphis buyout was only $500,000 played a big part in FSU's decision.
