Offseason Attrition Thread

Nash was a walk-on I think? Some of these other RB's may want to enter the portal. There are some really talented guys that just aren't going to get to play much.

So far we have nazir and i think someone who struggled academically (de maybe)?

Both accounted for in this recruiting cycle so we didn’t lose too much

missing anyone else?

Barring major injuries, most teams only use 44-60 players per year. If you don’t make the two deep out of spring, don’t know what else to say. Especially with twenty + new bodies coming in soon.

It's too case specific to have a principle that is that overarching.
It's possible to be in two deep in spring and not be there at the end of summer camp.
It's also possible to be out of the two deep at the end of spring for whatever reason- injury or poor play- and make your way into it during summer.

Guys who were BTL and might be looking:

Zach Owens, WR
Stephen Dolphus, WR
Jair Hawkins-Anderson, WR
Devin Ellison, RB
Tony Amerson, RB
Luke Johns, DL
Cornelius Evans, LB
Jeremiah Smith, S

Guys were ATL but might be looking:

Lucas Johnson, QB
Tobias Oliver, QB
Brenton King, K
Wesley Wells, K (may not be on scholarship?)

I don't see Tobias looking. He won't be QB, but he's able to compete for running back and/or receiver.

What's our policy on guys that enter the Portal but don't end up landing somewhere else?

With a lot of these guys it's not a question of can they play. Hell Tobias can play. I think those running backs are really good. There's a bunch of redshirt freshman too, as you would expect. But competition is getting really fierce at WR and RB.

Whether you make the two deep or not, it is reasonable to move on after you graduate so you can start your career.

And not everyone does this for the playing time. Sure, that's nice but a PWO often just wants to be part of the team and contribute, even if it only during the week.

I figured this thread would be used as a scholarship tracker, but it was really to give guys like this a moment of recognition for a lot of hours of sweat and study.

Dolphus was mostly injured and got behind a bit. If he were to bulk up, he'd make an excellent TE candidate. Tall. Long arms.

If I was one of these smart kids who wasn't going to make a D1 roster, I'd realize that my football talent can get me an Ivy League degree and start knocking on those doors.

He's been here 3 years and gained 17 pounds. You'd like to think he could be like Waller, but Waller is like 255 pounds now. He has to be. He was already 240 when he left Tech.

Perhaps he can continue to grow at receiver and will have a place there. He's going to have compete with a loaded crop of freshman, though. I can't see him at running back, especially with how deep we already are there. If Gibbs comes, we're likely looking at the former Gatorade Player of the Year in GA (Griffin) at 3rd string.

Not sure that I’m a huge fan of open speculation around who might/should leave. Especially weak to include true freshman who redshirted and didn’t play.....so what? That’s a very common thing. Plenty of great players and high draft picks r/s their first year. Maybe we use this thread to capture actual departure new or actual rumors that we didn’t start?
