Offseason Attrition Thread

Running off fans is our forte, we've been doing it for decades. It has been happening since way before this coach, the previous coach, and the coach before that.

I have zero problem with fans who came aboard with CPJ. We all became fans for a specific reason at a particular time. But if they are gonna stick around, they ought to support GT and learn to embrace something other than one narrowly defined offensive scheme.
More than anything they were very appreciative of what PJ stood for character wise and feel that Geoff is nothing more than an insincere salesman. I get it but I don’t agree with their feelings about Geoff. The most obnoxious things about them was them lurking on Chat, waiting for a screwup, and saying nothing about someone’s good play.

* Yeah, 9-10 isn't crazy and even 12-13 given our roster makeup is understandable during a transition.
* It also seems like some are forgetting Tech always seems to have a lot of attrition: 5-7 every year. There is a reason that we only had 9 SRs.
* Also, GT honored every offer that had been made before Collins was hired. 2 choose to not come but that wasn't because they were told they couldn't. Most schools don't do that and don't hinder their coach that way. FSU turned away at least 2 maybe more away. UofL last year turned many away.

collins was specifically told to honor the commits PJ and staff had gotten. That cane from a well place source at The Hill
To hear the two who committed and did not come, by their accounts, the new staff did not reach out to them. Again, that’s only their side of the story

I can support the current coach without taking a big ole fat dump on the old coach.

Yawn. Wgaf

I am surprised we have not had more transfer portal entrants. I thought players transferring would want to go through Spring practice with their new teams.

...so what?

You transfer, you don't get the GT degree you've been working your ass off to complete.
I figured LJ would probably finish up and transfer for his master's degree. Work wise, he seems to have a pretty good path, from what I read.

Feel like this has been gone over a lot but it keeps coming up. Yes, all commitments were to be honored up through the early signing period. Both of those recruits were contacted. One had an in-home visit (photos exist of this visit) and one was invited to come down with the rest of the commits for a big visit weekend prior to the December signing day, but he had committed to play in an All Star game. Both made it clear they were waiting til February. After the first signing day, Collins didn't recruit them anymore. They had a chance but missed their window because they didn't understand their position on the totem pole. It was for the best, as we ended up getting Lockhart, Griffin, Deveney and Ahmarean Brown instead, along with transfers Davis and Southers.

It’s a shame he let a couple Sun Belt guys wiggle off the hook...

I don't know about "insincere salesman" but "salesman" is what big time college football has become. Until now, we weren't participating. Maybe we won't be as successful as we hope for, but at least we are mimicking the better programs now. The Holy Grail will be if we can maintain a top 25 recruiting program and actually coach-up that level of talent. I still think the transfer factor plus the four game red-shirting will be a completely new ball game for everyone.
