What is surprising about this sort of hire for the Dolphins?

He is going to the Dolphins. That team is in the middle of a massive rebuild. This doesn't seem like a bad move to warm the seat for a year or two. I can't imagine the hottest young coaches are lining up to lead that collection of offensive players. Now, two years from now when they have their young QB and some other pieces the story will be different.
You're right but not to warm the seat. If in a massive rebuild as you say, they want him for his personnel evaluating ability. He is supposedly the best personnel evaluator in the business, thus the reason KC hired him as OC and Bills hired him as HC. Don't know how the Bills are doing but KC seemed to work out pretty good after his rebuild.

Can't wait to peruse the Dolphins' message boards and see "have we turned the corner?" posts after a win.

Only to find the next week that they did not.

I dunno bout all that or the NFL, but I thought the first thing the Bills did to get good was get rid of Fitzmagic.

Chan is a good football man even if he was a mediorcre coach for us. Happy he has work.
Flunkgate out of the gate didn't help. He got a grand total of 5 years. He managed to get Calvin and keep him from helping the Gaggers win a natty. I was always convinced we were going to win in 2008 and 2009
