Matt Ruhle to Carolina Panthers

Apparently Rhule let let the Baylor team know via text message after all of the reports, I'm sure.
Rhule has the right to go interview for these opportunities. I bet when they offered 60/7 that the pen was smoking he signed so fast. With how close some of these NFL insiders are to teams, it’s not surprising that news broke before Rhule could properly get the team together to tell them. He isn’t going to call them each individually. This is a nothing burger.

'Family over everything' was also a similar mantra of Rhule. Given the relationship between coach and player at the college level, a group text in this situation would be a dick move.

What about a group text when they are already reading about it all over the internet and he isn’t even back to Baylor yet.

“Bank account over everything” doesn’t have quite the same ring to it

I ain’t worried about anybody poaching Geoff Collins.
I don’t know why this is getting bigcried. Yes he’s a helluva recruiter. Hardly a skill that translates well to NFL. He doesn’t yet have the record to show he can coach well too. If he is successful it’s more plausible for him to get poached by an SEC or PAC team. I don’t see that happening unless someone decides to pay him $5. And again he doesn’t have the record to get that kind of offer. If he becomes that good, by then I imagine or at least hope we can pay him that.

Don't know the details but seems like Rhule could have held off on signing anything until he had a chance to tell his team personally. If the Panthers can't wait four hours for him to sign, then there's something else afoot. And I don't know what kind of limits (if any) apply in the off-season to team meetings, but I assume there's no reason he couldn't ask everyone to come in for a meeting.

Cause a few folks on this board treat Collins like a he's the second coming of Jesus himself. I ain't worried about them either.

My thoughts on Collins are what they are, but I really, really want him to succeed here because not succeeding isn't going to be fun at all for anyone.

You guys seriously believe Collins is at his "dream job"? C'mon now...

Anyone else think it's strange that a thread about a coach who's never been associated with our program reached 3 pages?

Sign before telling, but tell in the right way. Announcing your departure over a channel as informal as text is a coward’s way out. Take ownership of the decision and handle it like a leader. A text message is not handling it like a leader. Even if the news breaks before you can announce it you have to do it the right way.

People are making too big of a deal over how the team was told imo. Scott Frost's departure from UCF was reported in the middle of a game they were playing.
