Serious question... where are we getting the money to fly all over the state in a helicopter, and why did that change when CGC got here??
I believe Stansbury/CGC did a lot of fundraising off the bat during the peak of 404 juice last year. So it’s either that or we had the money before and it was spent elsewhere. Wouldn’t be surprised if it was both. Obviously CGC is approaching recruiting more aggressively than any other coach we’ve had at Tech.

Collins is great at anything marketing, recruiting related. The story is that Waffle House and Collins worked out a deal: he will continue to rep them as much as possible and they will let him/GT use the Copter. We do have to pay for Gas/Pilot (or something like that).

Stansbury would have helped Johnson as much as possible and given him more resources going forward BUT it sounds like a few donors opened the purse for Collins and would not for Johnson.

That's for use of their jets. I don't think that is their helo we're using. It's a private charter.

I believe they are pouring more money into recruiting than ever before. Where does it come from? Coincidence? New head coach, AD, and President in just a short time frame???

I think there are signs that the GT staff is pretty good evaluators of talent. This is another example where we make an offer before most and then may top programs follow us.
We are also closer and often get to see them first. Saban has been known to use us as a scouting service in the past, and those days are ending.

The real question is how long before Collins is pulling up at local high schools in WaHo’s other vehicle...
Never, IMO. Maybe it will be there on signing day. The chopper is about visiting the entire metro area during a limited timeframe by flying over the traffic.

So since we offered in DEC he’s picked up Miami, PSU, Texas, Oregon, and Bama offers? Crazy.
Vance Walker was under recruited out of HS, mainly due to the team he played on. He didn't get any Bama type offers, but VT did put a last minute hard press to get him.

Not from what I understand. Collins and WH do have a deal but it's for the use of their corporate jets and planes.

I believe the helicopters (there are 2 we have used) came from an initial meeting between Collins and some of the bigger $ donors/heavy hitters. They asked what he needed to be successful and he told them a helicopter would be invaluable in recruiting...both for the effect of being seen and for getting to more places in one day. The blue one that was offered immediately by one of our donors/alums was a personally owned one. I believe the gold one is one being leased by a donor and provided for use of the coaches.

Principal: “That’s really, loud.”

CGC: “Yeah, thanks. I took the restrictor plate off to give the gold dragon some more juice. But it’s not exactly street legal, so keep it on the down low.”

CGC: “Hey Mike!”
