Collins on Packer and Durham Friday

Just listened to the interview.

First of all, not a coincidence that CGC is the first ACC coach in the basement.

Secondly, I am impressed. Like others, I understand that CGC is not at the X & O genius level of Ross, O'Leary and Johnson but when our players are so much better, the margin for error is a bit more generous.

Daybo isn't either. Iirc, daybo made sure early on to have Clemson pay for the best assists he could get, instead of going for a cash grab for himself. Played the long game

Another point coach made that will inflame the old folks here is that he says he likes the traditional uniform look but they will be continuing to mix it up and Morpheus has the lead on that.
I think he handled that very well. He loves the traditional G/W/G home uni's and that will be the standard, but he also alluded to the fact that the young kids and recruits and current players absolutely love all the new and different combos and one-offs and eat it up. That's what it takes to attract the kids these days.

The new blueprint. If CGC follows it, and I think he will, GT is headed for some very good years.

Funny how we keep having these amazing post-Dodd seasons (Ross - National Champtionship; O'Leary - Three-in-a-row over the dwags; Johnson - two Orange Bowls - one Orange Bowl win) and we (or at least me) think - ok, that was a high water mark. Then we get another Coach who does it again. At this point, I think there is a very good chance CGC joins those ranks.

I was critical of some of his circus act last year in the midst of losing ugly, but this was really, really good.
Listen fellas, I'm starting to understand this branding stuff, and if anyone wants to increase our brand visibility make sure to like, retweet, share, whatever you can do to content like this. It matters,no joke. Things like this are in algorithms to bring it to the forefront. We all do this and there is no telling what recruit ends choosing us because of a few several thousand fans liking a YouTube video, etc... Plus this kind of program support takes none to very little monetary burden.

When the topic came up about parity in the Coastal, you could tell he had to bite his tongue. He wanted so badly to say - “It’s our ööööing division now.”

disagree. Collins can hold his own with anyone on the d side. And imo is def as good as gol x and o wise

Dont sell him short. Its a bad narrative

This. The guy has had very good defenses as a coordinator at multiple SEC stops. He has nailed the recruiting game at multiple locations. He has been successful where he has been. Let him get a good foundation here with his vision and I think we are in for a treat.

It's been this way since at least the mid 00s. We just had Russell.

Yup. The idea that Collins can't run a good defense XnO's wise is horse poo poo.

The other kicker is that I believe we have the correct position coaches in the correct positions to really maximize the talent we bring in. Namely on the lines.

I feel the same way: my worry (and I tend to be a worry-wart) is offense and specifically the QB position: coaching and development. I'm not making a judgement just saying that is my concern. Also, late game coaching. Once again, not judging just wait to see.

I wish you guys could have known his father, Billy. He was my middle and high school football coach(offensive line) and PE Teacher. Quite the character. Hate that he passed away a few years ago. Anyway, the apple doesn't fall far.
Where did you go? I remember the Colorado running shorts vividly.

Not really sold on Larry Knight yet- he doesn't have the background and reputation like Key does, and the DL play last year was pretty bad. But he also didn't have much to work with so I'm ok giving him another season or two to prove himself.

I'm ok with Larry. I saw some good moves and tenacity. We definitely didn't have the players needed

I finally was able to view the entire segment in it's entirety. Great appearance on the P and D program on the ACCN. From branding, culture, recruiting -all of that, CGC and staff are doing an outstanding job. It all, of course, comes down to wins and losses -I have no reason to doubt that the W's will come too.
